What is your current price for regular Unleaded gas today? Mine went up a dime today to $3.97 |
|
With the spot price of oil forecast to push up around $125 per barrel, we will see gas around 4.50 a gallon this summer in Anchorage, and up to $5.30 a gallon in rural areas of the state. One suggestion, go to the junk yard and find an old Yugo to drive. Your average truck will cost about $150 to $200 on an average fill-up. |
The local natives here in Kaktovik get their DFA (Diesel Fuel, Arctic grade) for a a buck something, well below $2.00 in any case due to government subsidy. Meanwhile, we (Air Force) have to buy the very same fuel for just under $5. It's odd that those who provide the discount, don't get the discount. ![]() Being out of town so much of the time, using fuel purchased by the USAF, fuel prices don't really affect me. I don't have a house so no heating fuel bills either. Sounds good until you realize you have no life and are in the middle of nowhere. I'm trying to change all that. |
| No, it wasn't me but I did find out who. Check out the update on the Man gets chased by a Polar Bear in Kaktovic thread. |
It will be interesting to see what happens when gas hits $6 a gallon here. I'll bet $5 is when people really start going "whoa" and $6 is just fucking insane. We'll for sure see $4 a gallon this summer. Damn... gas was $1.45 a gallon what I got my truck new in '03. ~Dg84 |
In May of 1999, I drove to meet my wife for a family gathering in Wasilla. Gas was less than $1 a gal on that trip Ah the good ole days |
|
Development is some time out, but it will be interesting to see if this has any effect on oil price today. I would only expect a small blimp in price, to be reversed later in the day. today.Brazil locates largest oil reserves in 30 years Similar to AK Mike, fuel is 3.50 a gallon - Gas and 4.25/gal - Diesel here in Point Lay. The subsidized pricing based on the States price cost equalization program drops heating oil to .1.50. I went to the Arctic Economic Summit in Kotz last summer. People in Ambler and Shungnak were upwards of 9.00 for gas then |
I guess things are happening faster than I thought.....closing prices for oil up to almost $120 a barrel and gas in Anchorage (from what I heard) are to be priced at near $4.10 a gallon for unleaded $4.35 for super unleaded. If this keeps up, we are going to see an economy that is starting to unravel. Can you imagine that just about in 1996 we had oil at $9.00 a barrel? |
I wonder at what point this starts to become a major concern? We're already seeing the price of EVERYTHING go up because of the cost of shipping. What happens when we continue to sit back and hope the price of gas goes down and diesel hits $8-9 a gallon? Can that happen? I'm not an "end of the world, sky is falling" kind of guy I'm usually the first to claim people have their tinfoil hats to tight. But, I'm starting to think the stack of guns I have downstairs may come in handy in the future if current trends continue. ~Dg84 PS, MGNiko... thanks for the ammo bud. |
They were talking about the PFD the other day on the radio and said it may not be as big as expected because of the 5 year average deal and such. I hope they are wrong, Im going to need it to heat my home |
I certainly agree with you there. When I see the "lower income" folks start getting rid of their sattelite TV and cell phones I'll know the limit is close I did post this in the SF last week: I was moving (6) 5 gallon cans full of gas from my storage area to my car so that I could rotate the gas. I put the gas cans next to my house, at the back of my driveway next to my backyard fence. A call came in & I had to run to the store (for the pregnant wife). When I got back someone stole all 30 gallons of gas |
Yep, at the far end of my driveway, next to the house, right at my backyard fence. Those that have picked up ammo here can envision where I mean. Both my wife and I were PISSED! But at the same time it gave me a good reminder; when things get hairy theft goes up. |

After watching mythbusters do that I think that is pretty ineffective They had to work VERY hard to damage a car. Not the one packet in the tanka nd it dies urban legend |
Like I said in the other thread... it's fucking getting insane. ~Dg84 |

Here is the truth about oil prices and their tie to the pump.....This has been under study since 2000 and not a thing is being done, because your politicians want high gas prices............ link to report |
