~R

ETA

Department Pilot Assignments
A Trooper may provide additional services when assigned pilot duties. These duties include:

law enforcement patrols for commercial and sport fishing and hunting activities
transporting Alaska Bureau of Wildlife Enforcement Personnel and equipment to posts and patrol areas, to patrol vessels and remote stake-out locations
providing assistance to the Division of Alaska State Troopers when required in criminal investigations, transports, arrests, and search and rescue operations

Pilots will perform preventative and routine maintenance on aircraft as directed by the Aircraft Section and maintain aircraft stalls, hangars, or moorings in a professional and functional manner

Pilots will attend assigned training and maintain currency in flight standards and flight physicals as required by the Aircraft Section Manual

Troopers provide written logs and reports regarding all flight activities.

No, they won't pay for your school.  I'm a commercial rated pilot since 1999 and I decided they were not worth it.  You should definately have Alaska time before you apply.  I know it's not "required" per se but a good 500 hours would be worthwhile if you plan to apply.

I looked into the troopers a few years ago. From what I was told you have to work out at some remote location for 2 years then you might have a chance at flying something. 2 years is too long to be away from flying for me.

You could probably get a LEO job in Bethel if you had a pulse.  They are desperate there.

Then get your commercial, single/multi, float, CFI, CFII, move to AK, teach for a year or two to get AK time, and then apply.  I certainly wouldn't expect you to just walk in & get a job; pilots in this state are a dime a dozen.  Good luck!
