Kodiak is really starting to suck for me . The economy is tanking with IFQ's . I was going to buy a house soon , but three local business have shut down in the last week or so . I am starting to think it is time to move on before it gets worse here . My dilemma is do I just go mainland or do I go CONUS . Any recommendations on the mainland to check out . Things I require are a decent cost of living , and a place where it is safe for the kids to go to school . A nice job market is a good bonus . I don't care for city life for living , but I sure do like to visit it every now and than . |

I'd be happy to show you around the Kenai area if you ever come this way. I think it is the best place to be right now. Prices are good, Wally world is moving in, the services here are comparable to Anc, and there are hot chicks all over. Jobs here are not hard to find. My house would be easily a $400k place or more in anc, I got it for around $155k. You can still get little places for around $100k in neighborhoods, or if you want to be out a little the prices go lower. Like I said, if you make it this way, let me know. I am not to sure what is going on in the Conus, I know in NE OH things are sucking but property is dirt cheap. I tried to live there once and I don't think I can hack it there, I get the urge to strangle everyone and things go down hill. |
You guys need to get outside of Alaska more. Go to Hawaii or Flordia or even god forbid Kali and then come back to the homegrown.

When I first moved over here I had to get a bank check for a property closing. I walked into the FNB in Soldotna and there were 4 beautiful blondes working at the teller stations and I thought to myself "I am really going to like it here." I had pretty much quit drinking coffee and espresso until I discovered that some of Alaska's best assets work as baristas. |
Yea there are a lot of hot chicks , but almost all of them are psycho . The best ones are there for two weeks on vacation . ;) |
International fishing quota. IT is a pile of crap and just one more instance of foreigners controlling things here. It used to be that people would go out and fish, the good ones would catch fish, then they would make money. Now every boat has a quota that they can catch. The quota is based on the historical amount of fish that was caught by that boat. Most of the smaller boats are selling off their IFQ's. Less boats = less people = less money. |
