| How many of us screw off at work and check the site multiple times a day ???? I'm not the only one fess up someone |
As little as possible. But if I have to do something, I want overtime for it. (I'm a Teamster) Right now I'm at Barter Island, on the North coast near the Canadian border manning a 2 person station with a USAF Long Range Radar. With no bosses for hundreds of miles, it's pretty easy to hop on the net. That and living in the same building I work in helps. When I joined, I was an electronics technician. Now they call us Station Technicians and my duties include cleaning, cooking, maid and janitorial duties - just like a hotel. Occasionally I actually get to work on a radio or the radar - but that's rare. Still, it pays well enough to work for long periods in desolate and harsh conditions. Normally I have a few firearms with me for kicks, but I am pulling temporary duty here (I normally work in Barrow) and there is a 50lb limit for ammunition on Alaska Airlines.

Interesting. One of the local ARFcommers that was local to me in Barrow also worked for the school district (NSBSD), though he recently moved south. I work for ARCTEC AK, a bastard civilian company using union workers contracted by the Airforce to run, among other things, their long range radar stations. |
