I am in Des Moines and I am wanting to work on load development for my AR and my bolt gun and I hate going to polk city to hit that range does anyone know of private ranges that I could get a membership I would like to be able to buy and use a chronograph I don't think I would even have the option to use one in polk city , plus avoiding people would be great or avoiding the wrong type of people !
I know about the Ike's but do they go to 100y ? Any input would be great

Ankeny Ikes goes go 100.  Ames Ikes goes to 200, except our culvert washed out and we're limited to 100 at the moment.  Maxwell Ikes has a 300 yard range.  Membership in Ames is $120, Maxwell is quite bit less, Ankeny may be a touch more.  We're running about a thousand members at Ames, Ankeny is very close.  The range at Ames (my home club) can get crowded on nice weekends.

The DSM Rifle and Revolver club at Van Meter goes to 600 but good luck getting a membership.  They've had a waiting list for years.

I joined Maxwell when I was at ISU. Only went a few times to the rifle ranges, but they already had gongs out there, although you might want to bring the mower with you (used to be that way) if you want to shoot from prone. I just laid or used the back of the pickup. I was never there with anyone else.

Maybe try the Pleasantville Rifle and Pistol Club. I think yearly membership is around $40 from what I have heard.

Forgot about them.  100 yard range.  Nice place if somewhat basic.  Shot a match there a few months ago.

I've had good luck at public ranges by getting there as soon as the sun comes up.  Bad weather is another opportunity to be alone at a public range.

Take a look at http://www.colfaxgunclub.com

It is nice and quiet when there isn't a scheduled match, especially on the 200 yd line. I've only ever had 1 or two other people there with me when I shoot on Sunday afternoons. Membership is very reasonably priced.

There's a 500 yard range down by creston on the North side of 12 mile lake I want to shoot at this year.

It's only like $40 a year.
