So I have a question I am filling out my paperwork for a CMP rifle. On page 2A at the bottom does that mean I need to have a local notary sign the document?
CMP |

It has to be notarized but I don't think there is any requirement for local.
Just a minute.... As I understand it a notary's commision lists their city and state but I do not think you need to have it done locally. Notaries can be found all over; banks, schools, I would be a lot of Hy-vee customer service counters, city halls, some libraries, a lot of accountants, lawyers... maybe even the crazy cat lady down the street. Any Joe or Josephine Schmuck can become a notary. Just remember, do NOT SIGN the document before you go, what they are actually attesting to is witnessing you sign the document in front of them so they need to actually see you do it. You can search for Iowa notaries at- http://sos.iowa.gov/search/notary/ |

Call and ask them, but I would imagine if your mom says it is good to go then it will be as far as the CMP is concerned. I'd bet notarized is notarized as far as they are concerned. I can hear him now, "But, my MOM said it was OK! and then she wiped my nose and made me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich." |
