Can someone summarize what happened? The guy had some OEM parts in his AR that were not from a semi-only FCG. It could occasionally slamfire (hammer follow) very unreliably if the selector were moved to the "full" setting. BATFE took it, modified it even farther, used the softest primers they could find, and were able to make it slamfire unreliably and jam a lot. BATFE proceeded to fuck the guy in the ass for "transfering" (letting a friend shoot) an "unregistered" "machine gun." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Olofson |

Thanks. I thought we were talking about something that happens at Olofson range near Des Moines. I'll go away now.

Isn't there alot of mixed opinions on this case on arfcom?
I've read a few threads and alot of the details always seemed fishy. Best thing to learn is, if you have a malfunctioning gun get it fixed...like right away. Dont let someone borrow it, dont try to sell it, pop that bitch apart and get it fixed. I know someone who had a similar problem with his AR, and after it was discovered he didnt try and shoot it full auto.. instead he ripped out the fcg and bought a new one... guess what, he didn't go to jail |

Ya don't fuck around with malfs, I didn't have the Giesselle in my varminter AR adjusted properly and wound up getting a couple doubles. After the second one it went back into the case. Got it home, tore it out and went thru the install again untill it was correct. 10 years fed and losing my guns over something stupid just doesnt have any appeal to me. |

He said no, and much like Randy Weaver they fucked him to get even. There were several stories by him of autosears showing up in his or his father's house after ATF interviews. ATF's claim with the rifle is Olofson told the guy who borrowed the rifle not to turn the selector to the third position(had an M16 selector in it). Since he said not to do that it implied he knew it would go fullauto, and the "malfunction" was intentional and in reality an improperly done full auto conversion. They said something on the stand like "This can be considered a malfunction. It was intentional in this case". Olofson represented himself for much of the case and disregarded advice from his lawyer for more of the case, the jury believed their side and convicted him. The case had some very questionable things on both sides IMO. |
