I have a friend that wants an old school cannon.  I used to know a local fella that made them, but I've lost touch with him.  Anyone have any info on where to find a craftsman that does this?

I tracked down a guy from Madrid once that made Civil War cannons. This was almost 10 years ago. I have a rough idea where he lives, works in an old garage. His house and storage is further down the lane. I looked over some of his stuff and it was awesome work. I will look around and see if I stil l have his card.
I know he was associated with the Iowa Civil War Reenactors

PM me if you aren't having any luck picking up a trail. I know some people involved with the civil war re-enacting at Usher's Ferry.

Francis Lebeda, Lebeda Engineering, Cedar Rapids

He is a master machinist and is into building cannons right now. He had one on display at the CR gunshow.

I too would like a cannon at some point in the future.
I launch high power amateur rockets and about 3 years ago needed a fin template printed out that was too big for my printer.
I went to an engineering firm in Mason City to see if they could print it on one of their plotters.
They guy that helped me was interested in my rockets and mentioned that he and a couple of other guys were in the process of building a cannon.
FOR BOWLING BALLS!!!
I don't know if they ever finished it or not but it definitively piqued my interest.

i built one in 50cal by chucking up a truck axle in the lathe...  worked great.  threw the cannon aft quite a distance when not weighted down, but otherwise pretty cool.  these guys that build them routinely have some really great craftmanship...  post up the pics if any of you have them.

A friend's brother makes firing miniatures, is this what you want or do you want full size? I can ask and see if he minds me passing his contact info along. He's in Charles City and IIRC they run the $250-$300 range.

This is for a friend of mine.  I past the info to him. Not sure if he's called yet.
