I don't cast yet but I would be interested in some linotype in the meantime.

I don't cast yet but I've been acquiring the components to do so.  Are you looking to sell any linotype and how much?

I DO cast, and would be interested in some linotype.
When the weather breaks it will be time to make some more ingots and bullets!!

I would either be interested in selling some or trading 1:1 for pure lead or WW ingots.

I've done casting in the past but not for some time.  Where did you ever find linotype metal?  We searched high and low for that stuff in our casting days and never could find much.  I always thought it made the best bullets, it tended to be a little harder and more consistent that wheel wieghts (our usual source).

I haven't cast for about 9 yrs either. I still have all my stuff and about 1,000 lbs of wheel weights in ingot form. When i was casting there used to be an old print shop downtown that would sell me linotype. I'm pretty sure they got flooded last summer tough.

Where are you at, and would you be interested in parting with them???

It's a harder lead alloy used in linotype printing presses.  BHN averages 22.  It's good for high pressure rounds.  Rifles primarily.  It is good for cutting with pure lead to make a harder alloy suitable for smokeless firearms, or hardening wheel weight alloy a bit. Of course it all is dependent on the ratio.

you know about a year ago i was going to give it to a guy I know that casts. He said he had a 55 gal barrel full of it and wanted to know if I wanted his. So I ended up keeping it and I think I will hang onto it now. There's a lot of bullets in them thar ingots.
I don't know what he ever did with his, if he still has the barrel or not. If I see him I'll see what he did with it.

As a graphic designer this disturbs me. I LOVE old school type...

But I also love rocketing slugs of lead downrange.

Ozzy,
I've tried sending you an IM and an email, but for some crazy reason I can't do either this morning.
See if you can contact me through the site or email me at [email protected]
Thanks

I cast also but find I can water drop right from the mold and get very hard bullets using wheel weights with the lee and saeco hardness testers they harden right around 17 to 21 Bhn.. The second edition of Lees reloading manual has a pretty good section on casting and pressure testing of cast bullets and what that means to the reloader. How to keep from leading etc.. My bullets will stand around 30,000 psi. according to Lee's manual... A good read for bullet casters..

I had about 50 or 60 lbs of pretty much pure last fall but have since alloyed it. May have some more later but can't say for sure.

Well I don't have as much as I'd like and now I believe it to be monotype instead of linotype.  So until I am able to find much more than I was able to, I will be sitting on this.
