Donna and I put an offer in on a house over the weekend and after we countered their counter, they accepted.  Now it's a matter of taking care of the details :)  Inspection is tomorrow, then to talk with the bank about loan details.

either way, it is a nice little house in a good neighborhood.  Now hopefully my house sells in a decent amount of time.

kudos and congrats!

i'm the president of our town's economic development corporation and at our meeting tonight we all but decided to give lots away to people willing to move in and build on the lots - it ends up being cheaper for both of us.  considering banks still have cheap interest rates a fresh owner can go to bank with a quick $25K in clear equity right out of the chute and have their home built...  for smart folk that aren't overburdened financially you can clean up in situations like these.

good luck to you.

lol, it is a 2 car 500 square foot garage so nothing too terribly amazing, but i'll be able to keep the mustang in there and work on it.  plus it is insulated so it will be a bit nicer to work on things in the summer/winter.

nice thing is that there's nothing too terribly pressing that needs to be worked on or updated right away it looks like.

I'm excited, we did the inspection yesterday and nothing major came up.  a few maintenance things and the exterior electrical box needs to be looked at, but no deal breakers :)

that would be pretty nice, fuel costs would start to add up commuting with the F150 though

well, if you figure it is a 15 minute commute to mtown from baxter, you'll have a couple gallons invested daily.  $8 on tall end, and $5 on the low end...  both depending on fuel economy and costs from $3 to $4...

we've found that there are quite a number of people still wanting to live in areas like ours, since DSM, Ames, Mtown, Newton, etc. are all within 30 minutes or less...  they can buy and build a new house the way they want it in a great  and clean community with a superior school.  all while capitalizing on jasper counties taxes that are far less than the surrounding counties.  by the time you do the math the few extra miles get wiped out pretty quickly.

it is a very personal choice of course.  sounds like you have nice spot picked out!  i'm thinking you should have a garage party upon getting settled in...

just a hint.
