A number of years ago, maybe 7 years, my father purchased 1000 of the NRA

humanoid targets (I think they are model B27).  A few months ago, I used up the last

ones we had left.  Wanting to save money, I started thinking of ways to make them

myself.  I work in a Fareway grocery store in the meat department, and we use large

rolls of meat paper to wrap meat, and we will also sell these rolls of paper to

customers.  I also had a few of the FBI Q targets around the house, and it dawned on

me.  I bought a half a roll of 18 inch meat paper (around 6 dollars and there was still

at least 200 yards of paper still on the roll) and a can of cheapo black spray paint

from Pamida ( $1.50).  I then cut out one of the Q silhouettes, traced it onto a piece

of heavy duty cardboard, cut out the cardboard silouhette, layed it on a piece of the

meat paper cut to the correct length, and sprayed around the edges lightly.  It dries

very fast if you don't use very much paint.  I pre-cut about 15 pieces of the paper and

made them all into targets in about 5 minutes.  If any of you are looking for cheap

silhouettes, give this a try.  With the spread of Fareway stores in Iowa, you shouldn't

have to travel far.  Just ask at the meat counter if you can buy a partial roll of paper

from them.  I will post pics of these targets soon.

great idea.  you could probably save time and paint while getting the same effect by painting around the outside edge of the template onto the paper.  it doesn't need to be all black in order for you to shoot into it...

i might try that.

you might consider adding this to the "DIY" tacked thread in the precision rifle forum.  those kinds of ideas are always welcome.
