These are my OPINIONS, if you don't agree don't argue with me, just state your own opinion! Most of the store fronts in DesMoines, that I have been to, want to draw thier customer base from the wealthy and they don't care about John Q. JLM, DM - High prieces, no customer respect. -1 Scheels, IC - Currently not selling AW style weapons, large inventory of ammo, competitive prices. = Gander Mountain, CR - large inventory of ammo, fair prices, sales are best. = Marion Guns and Gold, CR - Will work on anything! +1 Ammo Bearer, IC - Will work on anything! +1 Jacobson's, Story City - Lots of handgun parts, will work on most items. +1 Gillette's Trading Post , Van Meter - Gunsmith, will work on anything! +1 |

JACK SMITH GUN SALES, DM - Gunsmith (limited on what firearms he can repair due to insurance), trades and has used guns, opinionated/stubborn and won't put up with gang-banger types in the store, prices are fair and he WON'T dicker at all...he'll tell you price is marked once or maybe twice if you're courteous and if you ask again a third time you might as well just walk out the door, east side location WITHOUT the west side prices and he doesn't do transfers for customers on anything new or for something he can get, very knowledgable especially with military firearms and has experience on them since the '60's, small time dealer with no other employees as it's just him (although his wife and I help out at gunshows), other than firearms his other weakness is farm tractors and given the chance he'll talk your ears off about either one as long as he's not busy. +1 GABE'S, Williamsburg - I've dealt with him at shows and at his store (under his house), nice family but don't ask him to do something illegal...he's the Chief of Police in Williamsburg, I don't believe he does much in gunsmithing, he'll work with you on prices if he can. +1 Well the above is my belly button...I mean opinion because after all opinions are like belly buttons as everybody has one. I've been to some of the above dealers that blackta6 described but don't have much to say other than JLM has always seemed pricey to me and Jacobson's display of old military rifles along the tops of the wall is worth the drive alone to their store. I can't comment on Jacobson's prices as I've never bought any firearms from them or looked that closely at their prices. Thanks for the info! ***** BTW this was my 1,000th post ***** [ ![]() ![]() ![]()

Scheels, Sioux City - Overpriced, anti certain military looking semi-automatic weapons, and requiring a separate privacy-invading, non-of-their-business-type "Scheels form" to be filled out in addition to the BATFE one ("How many guns did you buy this month" etc). -1 Double Barrel, Missouri Valley - Nice folks, reasonable prices (will 'negotiate'), no hassles, in-store inventory of military style semi-automatic weapons, will order stuff; gunsmith available. +2 [Note: I am in no way, shape, or form associated with the Double Barrel; just a happy customer...] |

the scheels form does not ask how many guns you have bought just if you have bought more than one handgun in the last week which is the law. Also wouldn't you rather have someone sign a form which would make it hard to sue over a firearms injury or death i would. Or would you rather leave the door open for lawsuits which hurt our cause. Ceder Valley +1 Cedar Falls Scheels +1 IC scheels 0(0 is so so) JLM -1 J&l -1 Talor guns +1 Sport outfitters -1 Marion Gold 0 DM scheels -1 |

What? What law requires me to disclose whether I bought more than "one handgun in the last week"? News to me... Anyhow, to each their own - I fill out the minimum of what I have to fill out, and refuse to give anything beyond that. If the dealer has a problem with that, I'll not buy there; and that's that with my Scheels experience. If you want to buy there, more power to you.= |
| The reason they ask, if you have bought more than one handgun in a week so they can file a moultipul handgun form with the BATFE which is the law. Because of the amount of guns they sell(2000 to 6000 depending on the store) and the number of people working there it helps to keep track of the sales of two in one week. Cabelas has got in deep crap for handgun sales and there just trying to make sure they won't lose there license like one of the Cabelas almost did. |

Good experience w/Jack Smith myself. Bought a Glock from him; was beat all to crap so he refused it for me, and said he would get the next one in with a local PD order. Only took like 2 extra days. Good guy, and it was $100 PLUS less than JLM wanted for what was in stock. |
