Is printing illegal in MI? Let's say you have a cpl but part of the weapon is showing while walking down the sidewalk, can you be cited? A friend who is a cop says its illegal, I say its OK. Anyone know of any mi code to confirm or deny? |
Considering open carry is legal I can't possibly see how printing is illegal. It's illegal to see you're carrying a gun that's under your shirt, but not illegal to have it completely in the open? Not that there aren't and haven't been conflicting laws like that.

Printing is fine. There is nothing wrong with it in MI. You need to correct your friend before he gets himself and his department in trouble. Open carry is completely legal. Concealed carry is legal with a permit. Printing is not illegal. My experiences seem to indicate that there are plenty of LEOs who don't know Michigan's firearms laws very well. |

Most LEOs anywhere don't know firearms laws very well. Can't blame them when they are so arbitrary and usually confusing. |

Concealed carry is legal with a permit. Printing is not illegal. This is what I've been trying to tell him. He stated that a cpl holder cannot print, that it either has to be open carried or completely concealed. I think he's just confused and what he really means is that someone without a cpl cannot let their weapon become concealed by a shirt or have the weapon tucked in their waistband with just the handle showing. Said friend also thinks that it is illegal for a cpl holder to transport their weapon loaded and in plain sight in a vehicle. |

My legal section of my cpl class was done by a state police officer out of troy. He said a person could hang the gun from the rear view mirror and it was considered "concealed He said he would write you a ticket for obstruction of view but nothing about the gun being or not being concealed.

Tell your cop friend he's an idiot for me. Thanks. |

Any time you are carrying a firearm in a vehicle, and it doesn't abide by the transport rules (unloaded and either cased, broken down, or inaccessible from the interior), it is legally considered concealed. |
