Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I'm looking for ranges in south eastern Michigan that are good for AR15 practice.  Not just typical multi yardage rangrs but that allow you to movd through courses ot scenarios.

Thanks in advance.

If in the SE Mich area, look up Lapeer Pit. It's a bit of the wild west there, no RO, safety totally in your and other people there's hands, so use caution. Most of the gun clubs in the area that do 3 gun style competitions are open to the public. I doubt you can just show up and run and gun practice outside of events though.

About the best thing you can do is go to the Lapeer Pit and hope you're the only one there. Watch out for tetanus!

Go to ACTS for sure.

Post 46 allows you to shoot on the move, shoot steel, draw from the holster, etc, but you'd better be safe.

Thanks Jeff, that looks like a blast! (no pun intended)

Couple hour drive for me I think but I'll make plans to come out there. Any advice on how a AR newbie should prepare besides reading your web page and getting familiar with my AR?

Just make sure your irons or optics are zeroed, and work on manipulations such as loading safely and reloading. Also you will need a blaster with a good holster and mag pouches for both the pistol and rifle.

We usually shoot within 100 yards so a 50 yard zero works great (1" high at 100).

I'm an RO and I will be there Saturday. Just make sure to be safe and learn. A lot if guys will help if you need it. It's more about learning how to use your guns and gear than winning the competition.

Come say hi, my name is Chad and I will be happy to help with anything.

There are clubs around that will let you do that but not any public ranges that I know of.  Livingston Gun Club would be one of those that would allow you to do that, they have a monthly 3 gun competition as well where you can just show up and play (cost $40 or so) there is one this weekend (sun).  Members there can just come and go as they please and most of their steel(plates/poppers/etc)/target stands are left out all the time. I go there with a friend and practice.

Also check out Friday Night Rifle League, I believe its actually in Bellevue, WA, oddly enough. Cant remember the name of the facility, but it was top notch. I was looking for something similar to ACTS while I was stationed at Lewis last year. Its similar to ACTS but indoors.
