I had been wondering what happened to DGW's website and facebook page, and it appears that there is an answer (sort of): http://www.detroitgunworks.com/

By now many of you have noticed (or are noticing by reading this page) that our website and Facebook pages have been removed, but no need to panic. We are still here! We wanted to let everyone know the reality of why this happened instead of having to speculate. We are still making components and doing what we do best! Detroit Gun Works has always been more than an internet presence, and today is no different.

In 2012 we experienced tremendous growth that we saw continuing into the New Year and beyond. As we head into 2013 we have made strategic business decisions to refocus on our strengths. In doing so we are not currently manufacturing lowers with the Detroit Gun Works name on them. We will not be manufacturing full rifles for the time being and we will not be at SHOT Show this January.

To all those lucky enough to own one of the 1,500 lowers made with the Detroit Gun Works markings, we thank you! You have helped prove that quality still matters.

Although our business direction has changed, please know we still exist and we are still making components. In addition, we continue to take on new projects. If you are interested, please feel free to contact us and discuss.

Thank you again for your support!

I won't pontificate on what that all really means, since if I really wanted to know, I could pick up the phone just like anybody else.  I am glad that I got my wife and I matching sequential lowers to build together. Hopefully that goes a little better than our infamous "Ikea Furniture Fiasco of 2009."

So they go from making 1,500 lowers that sell well to not making lower or complete rifles. And say they're not showing up to SHOT Show? They plan to stay in business how?

Their core business is being an automotive supplier machine shop for heavy trucks: http://www.centralscrewproducts.com/

Here is a pretty good rundown on how they got into the AR business: http://www.rifleshootermag.com/2012/06/25/motor-city-metal-detroit-gun-works/

Sounds like a good, family owned, small business, making things in Michigan. I'm glad there are companies like them out there, making widgets.

Guess that makes me one of the lucky 1500

One thing that stood out to me was the statement "In doing so we are not currently manufacturing lowers with the Detroit Gun Works name on them".  I wonder if they have some kind of exclusive production contract with a local AR manufacturer?

If so they should still have Detroit MI on them. Just not the DGW logo.

True, unless they are 80%.

Or DGW is making them for someone else and DGW has a deviation from the BATFE to mark accordingly.  For example, it is my understanding that Spikes Tactical lowers are made by Aero Precision.  The ST lowers are marked with ST's city (Apoka?) and state (FL), not AP's city (Tacoma) and state (WA).  I believe that there are other AR  lowers that have similar BATFE authorization for such a process as well.

I stand open to correction on this matter, but the above is my current understanding.

DGW is the maker of the Code Red Lower, The first run had Troy, Michigan and the next run will have Hialeah Florida.
