| The "purchase permit" thread got me thinking. Can I buy a stripped lower and take that to the sherrif dept and register it as a pistol before I build it? I know MI law changes after the first of the year. |

What you want to do is buy the lower from your dealer and MAKE SURE IT TRANSFERS AS A PISTOL. It doesn't have to be marked as a pistol on the lower, just make sure it leaves the dealer with the dealer marking it as such. That said, if you want to take a reciever that transferred to you as a RIFLE and then make it short enough to fit in the MI definition of a pistol (i.e. long arm between 26 and 30") then you are free to do so after mailing in an RI-60. Given that it doesn't cost anything to have the gender assigned at birth with the FFL, make sure you buy it as a PISTOL so you can turn it into a handgun or pseudo-SBR with the CAA Cheekpiece at a later time. |

Just be aware of what you have and how you build it after that. |
