I was looking at a satellite picture of the pit, and I noticed something I did not see in older photos, there is an open area clearly man made to the North East of the Pit. It looks like it has a narrow entrance off of Byers road, what is that?
It looks like a firing range to me, maybe 100 yards. Is that what it is?, and is that still on public land, or is that private? Is there a second pit? |

Looks like that area you describe is a part of the state game area. So yeah, looks legal to shoot there to me

I wasn't able to get up there after all, so I'll have to look some other time. I'll have to check the satellite picture though to see exactly were it is because it looks like the state game area ends just before Byers road turns. ETA Checked it. It is indeed in the state game area. Anyone in the area to check it out? ETA2 It looks like there might be a third spot further down the road to, but not as "improved" Also looking at the DNR's Map it looks like "pit 2" may be another "parking area" just like pit 1. |

I'm curious about the 4 clearly manmade clearings to the northeast of the original Pit. The 2 south of Byers Rd. appear to be parking areas on the DNR map just like the Pit. However, it seems the 2 clearins north or Byers Rd. maybe the same size or a little larger, aren't listed as parking areas, and fall within the SGA. If anyone can make it out there, could you check out all 4 of the clearings along Byers Rd.? Link |
