So Ive read the michigan definition of bbl length

“Barrel length” means the internal length of a firearm as measured from the face of the closed breech of the firearm when it is unloaded, to the forward face of the end of the barrel.

This to me means the barrel itself must be 16" correct?  As in no pinnned muzzle accesory is counted?   I mean it actually says "end of the barrel" specifically.   I wasn't sure on this so I bought a 16" for my build...  But im thinking I would like a shorter bbl.   Does anyone have any ag opinion or case law regarding this?  Ive searched plenty and have found nothing except people claiming things and not offering supporting documents.

Thanks for looking guys.

I have nothing to reference other than Federal law.  Pinned and welded is okay with them, its okay with me.

As far as defining barrel, it doesnt specify "rifling"......i see pinned and weldedas 14.5 rifled, and 1.5 unrifled, making 16"total.

As long as the muzzle attachment is permanently attached then it counts for barrel length.  If you can take it off without damaging anything then it must be taken off to measure.

Thanks for the input guys.  I see one of you is an ffl.  Id guess you should know!   I was just trying to find something more definitive.  I feel like people look at you like a "gun nut" when you have an AR.  Since I started building my rifle and showing friends/family they always ask if its an MG.  My wife even asked if it was illegal.   To many people it "looks" illegal.  The recent shooting hasnt helped...  I just want to be on the rite side of the law.   Thanks again.

I try to take the time to educate (as best I can without watching their eyes glaze over) when I get those responses. I've got a 14.5" on it's way to Rainier Arms right now to be pinned & welded. Can't wait to get it back.

I share your concerns, but I don't worry about this one much.  I found no reason to.
