What the hell is MDOT thinking, or don't they think?
I was on 75 South today, on time to arrive at my destination about 9:45, or earlier, and I run in to stand still traffic, first they shut down one lane, then another, then another, finally closing the freeway all together, and booted me off in to the detour from hell at about exit 44, not just a detour, but a detour on to Fort street which itself is torn to hell, with multiple crisscrossing detours, finally it reconnects to 75 at exit 27 after a 17 MILE DETOUR . Of course I needed exit 37, so I was a full 10 miles out of my way, so OK I say, I'll just take 75 North back up to my exit, surely they wouldn't be fucking retarded enough to close BOTH directions would they? OF COURSE they would, 75 North promptly detoured all the way back up. They left NO WAY to get to any exit between 44, and 27, with no signs directing you to those streets whatsoever. Not being from the area I did not know the surface streets, and adding insult to injury the best as I could tell the entire fucking city was a construction zone, and half the street signs were MISSING, and most of the other half were obstructed by fucking construction signs, and, or to small to read from the other side of the fucking street since the ones on that side were missing One sign directing the Michigan Uey onto Fort street was actually BACKWARDS, transposing North, and South. Ever try to navigate without knowing what the hell street is what? I had to turn around better than 5 fucking times in the end I arrived just after 12:00, about 2 and a half hours late. The stupid fucking bastards at MDOT closed a 17 mile stretch of I 75 in BOTH FUCKING DIRECTIONS, detoured in to a construction zone with other detours, removed, or obstructed the road signs, installed incorrect direction signs, and gave no directions for finding exits 43-28, this kind of stupidity takes talent. Is being completely retarded a requirement to work at MDOT? Want to know the real kicker? There was not a single construction worker, piece of machinery, or any sign of any kind of road work whatsoever for as far as the eye could see, they closed 17 miles of freeway for NOTHING. They closed it for no reason whatsoever that I can tell other than to just do it.
In all the delay cost me about 2 hours, and 20 minutes, about a quarter tank of gas, probably about $500 in lost revenue, and possibly my sanity, do you think they will reimburse me? |
I believe they were going to start installing a section of bridge at Dix-Toledo. There aren't many options for redirecting traffic. Fort would be a good one if it hadn't been under an ongoing reconstruction. You would think that a better job of scheduling could be done. But Hey! were talking government.

For a while during some construction, 96 had an onramp that merge immediately with the right lane - they just put up a 'yield' sign for the onramp...
It usually caused a big traffic jam, but it also provided the opportunity for lots of serious accidents - cars going 60+ joining cars going 10- Finally, some rebel decided to close the right lane prior to the onramp to allow for a normal merge. Better traffic flow, no accidents - who would have thought?

Had to drive to Toledo today. 75 was open the whole way. Looks like they put in the section of the bridge over the southbound side. It wasn't there on Monday. The MDOT website said that 75 would open this morning by 9:00 so we took the chance going down at 11:00. We did pass a lot of signs that said 75 was closed. They could have taken them down after the road was opened.

I know a supervisor at a County Road Commission. He told me MDOT and the county road commissions do NOT talk or coordinate with each other. That is why MDOT could detour into another construction zone (county project) on a surface street.
Government run organizations at their finest!

Makes me glad healthcare will fall under the gubment's purview. I do appreciate them working on the Southfield, I-275 (which I used to take before the bridge work), and I-94 all at the same time. Thanks for making my commute a jolly good time.
