The tragic events not withstanding. I am waiting for the month long barage of anti-gunners using this to fuel their agenda. Of course, the pro gunners will do the same.

Well it couldn't happen here in Michigan. Can't carry in theaters.

its already started.  Brady, Bloomburg, Rendell, and the usual MSNBC cronies are already calling for another ban.  Never let a national tragedy go to waste.

Exactly. Who says you can't carry in theatres?

One of the places that I cannot carry concealed is, "An entertainment facility with a seating capacity of 2,500 or more individuals..." (MCL 28.425o. In a movie theater complex (example 18 screens) is the number of seats the total of each individual room or the total of all rooms combined?
A: The word "facility" is not defined in the statute. When a word does not have a statutory meaning, the dictionary definition applies. One of the meanings given for "facility" in the American Heritage dictionary is, "Something created to serve a particular function." An entertainment facility is something created to supply entertainment. Therefore, the 2,500 seating capacity rule applies to the entire movie complex and not just one theater within the complex.

That doesn't mean you can't carry in a theater. It may mean you should frequent smaller theaters. The theater in Rochester Hills is a good size, but still only 1800-2000.

You are correct. Only reason I was aware of this, is a woman I know whose cpl is suspended for carrying at a theater.

What are the circumstances surrounding this?  If your legal, sober, responsible, and concealed, no one is the wiser.  My grandfather once had a t-shirt on it with a blind lady justice and a saying that as I child I never understood.  As an adult, I fully understand and agree.  "I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6."

Concealed is what the MCL says. Open carry is fine (with a CPL)

Exactly. This is what I was getting at. I would rather have you post this up in the first place before somebody that doesn't know any better believes all theatres are off limits. Some people believe everything they read on the interwebs you know

Spotlight Theater in Taylor has signs that say 'This facility seats more than 2500.'

Open carry is fine...... If they will let you.   Its still private property. Im guessing if they wont let you carry concealed, then they wont be ok with OC.

And to the guy who said just keep it concealed and nobody will know..... you might wanna rethink the advice you give out on a public board.

Please do share the details - I am not advocating violating the law, but aside from an illegal search, I don't see how this could have happened

Many people I know consider the first time getting cought ccing in a pfz a freebee. Upto a $500 fine and 6 month suspension is better then going unarmed.

I tend to agree to a point.

Does the county gun board look favorably on that next time you need to renew your cpl?

It doesn't matter if they look favorably on it or not.  Provided the suspension period is already over and the fine paid, it is not an option for them to deny a renewal.  Civil infractions are not on the list of disqualifications for the CPL.  Sure, they can make you report the board in person when your app is being reviewed but some counties do that anyway.

I never advocated breaking any laws.  Note, part of what I stated is "if you are LEGAL."  Non the wiser is if you are not printing (profiling).  I see so many people that CC that are very obvious about it.  It does not pay to advertise.

I don't get all the hand wringing, if you are planning on carrying to the movies then go to a theater with a capacity of less than 2500.   Like many here, I am carrying or I'm not going.
