Your current tourism commercials make me way to go AWOL from the army, move back home, and never leave the state again.
They make me hate all of the crappy places that I have to live, that aren't Michigan, They also make my kids ask when he can move to granma and grumpas house. Holy crap I wanna come back home. |

Upstate NY is nice I have relatives that live there but I far prefer our gun laws and the hunting and fresh water fishing in MI is pretty hard to beat. Cost of living is far cheaper and we are going more conservative while NY keeps going left. |

Show me a state where they don't have bugs. |

I know Michigan has sentimental value to some folks, but if you make comparisons objectively, it's probably #38 on my list of preferred states to be located. Unfortunately, my wife's family lives here and she is opposed to moving as long as we are working. Fortunately, I travel 25% for work.
States I think are worse: Iowa Nebraska Illinois Both Dakotas Kansas Oklahoma Missouri Indiana Mississippi Alabama Ohio |

Some Day the Murray's will be back in Michigan .
I have lived pretty much all over the world and I can't think of a better place to live then Michigan. Grant the jobs suck, but when we come back we will be retired and growing potatoes and tomatoes in the summer and hunting and fishing in the winter. |

The only activity you can really do in this state is get drunk.
That is not true, I have seen a lot more of the state dodging the road construction. We have two seasons here, gray and road construction. The two things we can't bitch about are the two things that are forcing me to hate living here more and more. Put that on top of the unrecoverable urban decay that is spreading outside of the cities....yeah, you all can stay, I am not taking my chances any longer than I have to. |

Many states offer some of what MI offers but tend to lack others. We really take the fact that MI has lakes everywhere for granted. Most states [other then those that also share the great lakes with us] would kill to have 1/10th the water we have. |

I've heard it put this way... "Michigan may not have the best at anything, but we have the best of everything." If you can't find something to do here, you really aren't trying. |
| i grew up in Muskegon and had family from holland up to Dalton. We had boats, and were at a lake at least twice a week. never minded the snow one bit. and like others mentioned, the seasons made the year change up.that being said it will be 3 years since ive moved down to Texas. the longer im here the more pissed off i get about being here. cant complain becuase the State of Texas gave me a job which is way more than i can say more Michigan. Its too freaking hot here. seasons go as follows: dead in the "winter" Dead in the summer and a little green in fall and spring. cant swin in the local lakes, and were hours away from the ocean. the trees aint trees, more like big weeds. the ONLY thing keeping me here is this career. no family down here and the only people i know are the ones i work with. |

Put that on top of the unrecoverable urban decay that is spreading outside of the cities..... Yep - the MI economy is bleeding dollars and dying slowly. It's very noticeable when I go on business trips. I had to go to Compton, CA last November. I remember thinking to myself, this area is better kept than 95% of Wayne County - what's all the crying and Death Row music about? |

Say what you what, I love my state. This I've spent most of my life here. I've seen most of the country, and lived in a few other states, but I've always been happy to be back home. I think the only state I would even consider moving to at this point would be AK, but work and family will likely keep me happily planted here for the foreseeable future. |

Actually Detroit/Wayne/Flint counties are the only ones that have any significant issues, financially, the State is in FAR better shape then many because a balanced budget is a requirement, not a suggestion. How localities spend their local dollars is their business and most of the rest of us sorta hopes they sink so far that the local corrupt political scum will die off. Unfortunately, a significant portion of the low end of the IQ scale reside in those areas and they are just too stupid and lazy to pull their head out of their anus and realize that they DESERVE the conditions they live in and it is their own fault. |

Boarded up businesses and house along every side road and main street tourist attraction area's... |

Yep. I have really noticed it this year. The landscape has changed so much over the last two years. I want out. I wouldn't mind being North, but out West looks better. The next four or five years here are going to be something to behold. |

Shooting, fishing, golf, boating, great climate for gardening, (and of course getting drunk also ).

| I've been here 13 years, moved here from Illinois for, wait for it..... a job, and have very little desire to move out. While parts of Michigan are shit holes, there are a lot of really nice places where the quality of life is high. I'm looking forward to retirement in 20-30 years and will move to the NW side of the LP and hope to get some land and grow old with my wife. For the shear outdoors opportunity, Michigan is hard to beat both on accessibility and cost. |
