Just saw a teaser for the news that said Lansing is preparing to make some changes to carry permits "that has some Sheriffs concerned", but I didn't have time to watch it.

Anybody heard anything about this?

I saw an article in the news the other day that mentioned that somebody was trying to pass a law that you could apply for a CPL in ANY county, not just the one you live in.  IE, your county takes to long to process, go find one that doesn't take forever and a day to process.  Sounds like a great idea to me. Some of the counties  were concerned that the police in another county would not know the background of an applicant like a local officer would.

I say hogwash, a background check is a background check. Seems some are still trying to prevent people from getting a CPL by making it as hard / long as possible.

Not sure if this is what you are talking about or unrelated.

ETA : there was also an article advising some were talking about allowing CPL holders to carry tasers.

What news station was it on? Could be something on their website.

This is coming from the office of state Sen. Mike Green.

There was a thread on here last month about this.  He was looking for people that have had problems with the cpl process.

I had a few emails back and forth with someone from his office, and this is a change that he is looking for.

Personally, living in Wayne County, I love this idea.

The county north of us still requires people to go before the board. So they have to take a day off work to do this.
They will be going else where I'm sure.

A few counties are notoriously slow. Those clerks don't want to lose the cash cow and are fighting it. Go to MGO and check out the thread on this subject with the Legislative news title.

Just checked the news site. Says that they're trying to pass a bill that would allow you to lock your firearm in your car on company property.

Far as I'm concerned, my car is MY property no matter WHERE it's parked, and therefore is a moot point.

Too bad the police and most employers don't feel the same way.

We NEED this law.  We have had the police take drug dogs through the parking lots at several of our facilities and anyone who the dog hit on had their car searched with management in attendance. Anyone found with contraband was fired. Here, of the almost 2 dozen cars the dogs indicated, only one had drugs. As soon as that happened, I realized we need a law like this to protect us from obviously illegal searches hidden under the guise of or war on drugs.

The parking lot bill

I doubt this one is going to make it.  The bill was introduced in the House on Oct 12, and nothing has been done on it yet

Would you be referring to Saginaw maybe?    I had to go before the board.

+100!  My good friend, a long time salaried employee of one of the Big Three, got burned on this big.  Had his lawfully owned pistol in his truck.  Someone who had a axe to grind tipped off security and when they asked him about it he was honest and then got fired.  Total BS move by Obama Motors.

Yes sir, when you run someone, it doesn't matter where in MI there from, the results are the same.

As far as Tasers, I am not in complete agreement with that.  One should have to take a taser ride to carry it.  This way there not to quick on the trigger.  Plus, a hand held device only, nothing that shoots barbs.  I highly doubt tasers like police carry will become legal for everyday Joe to carry.

This "parking lot" bill looks interesting.  I have always thought it was a bit restrictive to allow a CPL holder to carry his firearm but not have anywhere to put it at their destination.  From my understanding, some federal LE employees have a small vault type bolted in their trunk that is only big enough for a pistol.  This way, they would have to steal your car to get it.
