| My GF and I are planing a trip to Michigan for the first time this summer. We are coming from Northern KY. We like to camp, fish, hike, etc. Just wondering if anyone could recommend some great camp sites on the lake. |

Look up Manistee River Trail...very nice, relatively untraveled trail that goes along side the Little Manistee River - a very, very good trout fishing river.
Figure on hiking in about 5 to 7 miles to leave any potential knuckleheads behind. Trail is easy to moderate. Lots of sites along the river and along the bluffs for a nice campsite. |

Ludington State Park has great hiking and fishing. The Beachwood loop is furtherest away from Lake Michigan, but it is the best of the three campgrounds. Make your reservations as soon as you can in any Michigan campground because the spots fill up quick.
Here's the link to make reservations, it's down until the 15th, but you can check it out after that. Michigan camp reservations |

South Heaven has a nice campground on Lake Michigan, as is Ludington, which is a VERY popular park. Muskegon is another one to look into, just be careful on the site you pick. Just don't go to early in the season, need to give the winter fish kill time to disappear. If you want to head to the Yupper, Porcupine Mountains West would be my recommendation, pack a small electric heater just in case. This one would be my choice if interested in doing some hiking. Make sure to put all your food stuff away at night, Michigan has some very educated raccoons living around their campgrounds. If you make it up to the Yupper, the Black Bears might be interested whats for dinner too.
Have fun |

I am going to sugest it to the GF. From what I have read on various forums it sounds like the place to go. Reservations seem like they might be a problem though. |
