As most of us here i like collecting guns for my personal collection, i like a wide variety of firerams to millitary, to modern , wondering if there is a ffl out there i could get to just avoid having to pay transfer fees everytime i buy a gun offline etc.. Not looking to sell or deal any firearms or iteams, i seen the ffl type 3 i believe but is this only for older guns or does is it ok to buy modern guys with this, every 10 guns you buy at 25 for a transfer it adds up quick thanks

Your choices are get a 01 FFL (Dealer), buy in State only (no fees), get a buddy whos a dealer and will do it for free, or pay the fees.

Try to work out a deal.  Gurantee to transfer X number of guns a year for a discounted rate.

Unless you plan on making money with your FFL, it's a lot of hassle just to save a few bucks.

-If you don't have a separate building to house your license, then your residence becomes subject to administrative search during business hours.  You have to log in your personal guns as well, sine they are firearms in the same premises.

-If you live in a residential area, you must be zoned for commercial use.  The ATF requires that you comply with all local regulations including zoning, notification of local law enf., etc.

-You become subject to compliance checks where an agent comes to your home or business to check your records, how your firearms are stored, security measures, goofy stuff like if you have the right warning posters hanging up.

-ATF changes the rules and changes its mind so much that it's hard to keep up.  I had an FFL for almost 9 years and probably saw a dozen revisions of the 4473 during that time.

-Like any other gov't regulated activity, it's nigh-on impossible to be in 100% compliance with all the rules; all the time.  Some agent gets a wild hair, or you piss a neighbor off who calls the ATF, they can and will find something that you've omitted on some paperwork, and charge you with it.  Not only that, but they can and will confiscate all of the firearms on the premises and sell them.  Ask Cav Arms.
