| Since when do I have to present ID to buy shotgun shells? I bought some 12ga shells yesterday and the Meijer chick demanded an ID to ring it up? Is this a new law I hadn't heard of, or just stupid store policy? |
never heard of it, except at dunhams for pistol ammo, and never at meijer |

I believe you do have to be 18 to buy ammo. Handgun ammo may be different than long gun. I've been asked whether the ammo was for a rifle or pistol.....at a big store, either meijer or walmart, maybe just a policy, but seemed to make a difference to them.(obviously it was for a rifle..lol) Showing ID as in I AM 18, 21, whatever does not bother me. Dunhams wanted to fill out a form with the info from my ID. Sorry, but no. |

It's kind of like the ID for tobacco and alcohol purchase. Normally I don't get asked because I look over 21. The last time I had any issues was at the self check out at Meijer and the clerk came over and put in her pass code and I continued to check out. If you watch the register at some stores the clerk is supposed to input your date of birth to get the ammo to ring up. Most times I have seen them just put in the minimum date to get it to read 18. The .22 question about if it was for a rifle or pistol is because they can not sell pistol ammo to anyone under 21, not sure if that is law or store policy since you can own a pistol at 18 if bought from an individual. | The other day at wally world this guy said you had to be 21 to buy pistol ammo and he slides the box back. Im like "no shit heres my id". I was born in 85 which makes me 22. He looks at my id and says " yeah you have to be 21" after about 15 mins of talking to this moron he finally does the math in his head. What a hassle. |
