Looks like another trip north is going to get fugged up and I am dying to go shooting. So I am thinking about heading to the Pit on Saturday if I don't go north. How is it during these times (snow/cold)?

I'm itching to get up to the pit myself but i'm sure its way too damn cold for my taste no matter how bad i wanna go shootin. I got my new beretta 92, my AR-180B and my mossberg that would love to have a day of fun.

I just don't think its worth the hour + drive to stand around up there in near single digit weather.

I wish I could be there instead of here this weekend. Unfortunately, I am recovering from ear surgery. That means I am sitting around with a hell of a ear ache and watching blood seep outta my ear. Not a good time.

I'll be leaving for the pit with my trusty FN FNC in about 20 mins.

Well got out there around 4pm with two buddies and about 3 layers of clothing. There was about 6 other shooters there. The pit was surpisingly clean, wasn't much in the way of monitor sized targets out there at all. Looked like 1 barrel was out there though. Snow obviously covered everything else.

We unloaded our gear. I had my FA FNC, my friend had his brand new-unfired Bushy, and the other guy had a Blackthorne M4 kit. I wanted to put rounds through that to test it out as a possible purchase for my department. We want M4s in our cars.

Quickly, on the way there I made my noob friends perfectly aware of "pit etiquette" if there's other shooters there and so forth. I informed them I would be babysitting them and if I had to check 'em on something to not get all whiny.

Anyways, the other guys appeared to have a mix a stuff; some SKSs, AKs, shotguns & soforth. The range was (no pun intended) cold. No sooner had we just started getting ready when they told us the range was goin hot. I barely got out the 1st few words of "HOLD ON, LET US PUT OUR EARS ON!" when they started crackin away.

That kinda pissed me off. Because that's a pet peeve of mine, I'm always extra courteous about that. I got over it. They were nice enough guys. We shared some of our toys & visa-versa.

The cold really only effected our fingers from the exposure of loading mags. Which in turn made trying to load mags with cold/numb hands pretty comical. Other than that, we were out for a good hour before we gave the victory to the cold.

Our toys performed excellent, no hickups. All & all It was a good day in America.
