The registration card says that I can not lend or let some one borrow my handgun. Well. What if they are out of State? Am I required to keep the gun in my house. I mean, what if the cops come and say that I have 5 guns registered and want to see them and I can only produce 3. The other 2 are out of their jurisdiction. What about giving handguns to family in a different State? I.e. a gift. Would I have to go to the Police Department and tell them the guns are leaving the State? |

You are the only person legally allowed to be in possession of the handgun. You can give it to someone but you will both need to go to the police station and have it unregistered in your name and then registered in the name of whoever you are giving it to. If you plan on giving it to someone out of state you will have to have an FFL dealer send it to another FFL dealer in the other persons state of residence. Then that person will have to have it transferred to them. The person you are giving it to cannot just drive up here and take it home with them. Also if the cops ever go to your house and ask to see your guns, unless they have a valid warrant, tell them to F*** Off. |
Yes this has passed. |

243, You have a valid point. There are specific details of transfer you need to learn, in order to be in step with the law. Thankfully, unless you transfer posession of a firearm to a felon you are pretty much insulated if you do so in ignorance. Contact the local Prosecutors office and ask formally. Whatever the answer here, it's up to the local PA in the end. Common sense ain't common. Stay safe! S-28 |
