I'll be up there on a business trip shortly.... anything I should know about the area? tnx

Yes, there will be signs at the dunes that say something to the affect of "pregnant women and people with heart conditions should not climb the dunes". Take these signs seriously, lol. Dont forget a good camera. Here's a good start for info..... Sleeping Bear Dunes Plus, it's pet friendly if you're taking your buddy with ya.

I live about 40 minutes down the road from there. The dune climb will kick your ass, but you get some really nice views of Glen Lake from the top. You can walk all the way out to Lake Michigan, but it is pretty brutal... up and down sand dunes for nearly two miles each way will take it out of you. If you want some great views of the dunes and Lake Michigan without killing yourself on the climb then just do the "Scenic Drive". Its just a big loop through the woods with a handful of stops where you can get out and get some spectacular views. Still $10 bucks but worth it for the lazy man. Skip Glen Haven, it is pretty lame. Right down the road though is Glen Arbor... which has quite a few really cool resteraunts and little gift shops. Otherwise the leelanau peninsula is pretty sparse... a few small towns here and there and lots of woodlands. If you're driving around dawn or dusk keep an eye out for deer because there are a shit-ton of them. |

It could be 80 or 20. Rain sleet or snow or dead clear. But regardless it will be outstanding! I love that area of the state. Glen Arbor is cool, but I typically stay in Leland. If it is business and they are footing the bill you might like the Homestead in Glen Arbor. |

made it out to the North and South Islands on tuesday... we had to change plans due to weather and I need to go back out to NMI but looking at the wx forcast I doubt that will happen. SLBE is a nice park. The Lake Michigan water was crystal clear too. will get some pictures up soon. |
