I just got my michigan CPL back in April, then my company decides to relocate me to the Dallas area. Naturally my gun right were one of my first concerns so I called the Texas DPS who is the issuing authority for the Texas CHL. They told me not to worry - as Texas will honor my Michigan permit (and any other state who has reciprocity with TX) until it expires. While I was really happy to hear this I am skeptical...how can I be a Texas resident and carry with a permit from a different state that will not issue a non-resident permit. I guess this maybe means I can only carry in Texas?? Does anybody know for fact wether this is legal??? |
| Check out this list for all the states that honor michigan's cpl. good stuff to know on a road trip. if you look up ohio, they have some strange laws when it comes to driving. but texas is no problem. |
If you're moving your permanent residence to Texas, then you need to apply for a Texas CHL. Your Michigan CPL is valid while you are a resident of Michigan. Reciprocity is for VALID CPL holders; not CPL holders that have moved their residence to a new state and are no longer a resident of the issuing state.
