I just submitted my CPL renewal today. Got fingerprinted today, so they have everything they need. My current one expires on 6/5/06. We will see when I get it back. Ottawa County if you are wondering location. Question also, why do I have to get re-fingerprinted? Did my fingerprints change in 3 years? At least I won't have to do it for another 5 years now. |
No, the total fee was $105 to the County Clerk. I am guessing $5 would end up at the Sheriff's for the fingerprinting fee. If I remember correctly I had to pay like $15 the first time I had this done. |
I think $15 still goes to the agency that does the prints. |
Not sure, but I do know that to run a fingerprint background check at my sheriff's office is $5. Still can't figure out how my fingerprints changed in 3 years. Don't they pull up fingerprints from 20 years ago and nail people with them? Or is that just on TV.

| If the LEO agency runs the prints to check on a non-suspect citizen, they can not use the submitted prints for any other purpose then in conjunction with the submitted application and must destroy them after short period of time. In other words, the prints submitted by a non-felon are “one-time-use only”. So, even if you had been “printed” yesterday, but need to submit prints for some another reason, you must do this all over… |
Thought maybe the whole idea behind getting fingerprinted is that now you are in the database and if you commit a crime (which is what all CPL holders are trying to do right?) then you are already in there if they get fingerprints on a crime. |

GOT IT!! County Clerk called me today and I ran out there. My CPL is now good till 2011. Weekend for of 4 weeks to get it from when the renewal paperwork went in. Gotta love it though, didn't register when they said it on the phone message. When I go into the office, lady says can I help you? Me: Sure, I am here to pick up my CPL. Lady behind the counter: Oh you mean your CCW? Me: Ummm, yea. (Thinking no dumbass we don't have a CCW in this state, then I wouldn't have to leave my knife in the truck. It is a Concealed Pistol License, says so right on the card) Of course I just smile and pick up my renewed CPL. This is in a courthouse building so you have to go through a metal detector to get in the building. Get wanded everytime, I am not taking off my shoes and my belt so that I can avoid this. Oh well, at least we can have our CPL's. I will keep dreaming about suppressors and SBR's. |
Yeah, but we'll charge you for a CCW violation if you carry without one I'm glad to hear that some counties can get the system right and actually serve the people. |
Just depends on what side of Kenowa Ave you live. I do know that the prosecutor in Kent County (Forsyth, went to high school too grades ahead of his daughter, lived right around the corner from me growing up, small world) is very against giving out CPL's. So much so, that he quit the board that does the reviews. IIRC I believe part of it taking so long is that Kent County likes to do a more intensive search for mental "issues". If you had brought in a doctor's note certifyng you not loony then it would speed up the process. But good luck finding a doctor who will sign that note, too much liability. |
perfect. i was hoping to be approved before I went on vacation to Indiana in July, but who knows now. Only one more gun board meeting before vacation. |
its usually the first tuesday of the month. there was one yesterday, and one a few days after i applied for my permit. i would assume they will call me in for the one the first week of July. I have been calling every Friday to check with the clerks office on the status of it. |
i may already be in a tough enough of a position. I used my mom as one reference, and that is fine, but I used a friend who I did not know has a few DUIs under his belt as my other one. He is generally a good guy, but just gets himself in situations where he should choose to not drive, but decides to anyways. Hopefully they dont dig too deep into your reference's records. |
