They woke me up early this morning, and I saw one in my front yard. I just saw one in my backyard. He had his eye on my neighbor's cat, but ran off when he saw me.

Can I shoot these things without a hunting license?

Technically, no and yes.

No, if is for sports hunting.  Yes, if you own the land and can get away with claiming destruction to property under 70-4-115. Or self defense under 70-4-134 (that one would be a hard sell unless maybe you could document it attacking a child or something).

Protection of livestock and other domestic animals counts for the landowner. Protecting the neighbors cat is a good shoot provided there's no neighborhood/ safe shot issues.
