I sent a email to Mr. Alexander in hopes he supports the second amendment seems like the man gets it. If not i will not vote for him.

Dear Joshua,

Thank you for sharing your feelings regarding the tragic shootings in Newtown, Connecticut.  I was horrified by this attack that left twenty-eight dead.  My thoughts and prayers are for the victims and those who now live with their loss.

As we learn more about the tragedy in Newtown, I think we must look closely at the behavior of isolated young men who develop an obsession with violence.  We should ask the leaders of the entertainment industry whether they would want their children--or those who might harm their children--to watch the increasingly violent video games and movies that they pour into our culture.  This is not the only cause of violence in our society but it is one important cause. Connecticut has strong gun laws. The problem is not with the gun but with the person pulling the trigger.

This is a terrible event for our nation and we must find appropriate ways to respond. I’m grateful you’ve shared your reactions with me and will keep them in mind as we move forward.

Sincerely,
Lamar Alexander

I got my response today as well.

Dear Kyle,

Thanks very much and letting me know what’s on your mind regarding the right to bear arms.

I’m a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights. Congress should not pass laws that take away these rights from law abiding citizens and leave criminals to terrorize the streets. Good citizens don’t abuse guns – criminals do. I will continue to support legislative efforts to protect the Second Amendment rights of law abiding Americans, and oppose efforts to overturn the Second Amendment.

In two recent cases, the U.S. Supreme Court clearly held that the Second Amendment protects the right of individual Americans to keep and bear arms. In the 2008 case, D.C. v. Heller, the Supreme Court held that D.C.’s restrictive gun laws violated the constitutional rights of Americans. Two years later, in McDonald v. Chicago, the court struck down the city of Chicago’s handgun ban and held that, like the federal government, state and local governments must respect Second Amendment rights. I joined legal briefs in both cases in defense of this constitutional right and was pleased with the Supreme Court’s decisions.

I am grateful you took the time to let me know where you stand. I’ll be sure to keep your comments in mind as Second Amendment rights are discussed and debated in Washington and in Tennessee.

Sincerely,
Lamar

It may be canned, but that means he and his staff spent a lot of time to get it right. I will go with the glass is half full and that response is a good thing.

I take this as a good sign, it means he has wet his finger, stuck it up in the air, and from that determined that the mood of the Senate will be that they will not go along with knee jerk reactions.  The worry here will always be the Senate, The house will hold.  Alexander could still compromise, but at least he is telling his constituents what they want to hear.

I agree. I think the libs have lost momentum. That is why they are moving up these state votes to get something in before they lose all momentum. The polls are in our favor, the panic gun buy is a great indicator and the capital is getting 9 to 1 corresponce from voters against new gun laws.

It is far from over. Media will continue its attack. From what i am reading, the dems want to use this as another big bureaucracy monster; new agencies, new jobs, new taxes, etc. Big like obamacare.

I wish the NRA and gun industry would start a media campaign educating the public.

I sent an email last night, received the 2nd reply today. Sounds like we have been busy, many other shooters and casual firearm owners I know have been sending letters too. Many for the first time in their life.

I have recieved responses from all of my Congressmen. So far I think they seem to get it......TN IS THE PATRON STATE OF SHOOTING STUFF.  and they know fucking with us would cost them their seat.

All I can hope is that enough Congressmen from other areas and states get the same message.

I really hate that guns have been pushed to fore front of the politosphere. Guns, Gays, Abortion, Prayer in School etc etc.....all these issues, while important, seem to be a smokescreen by politicians to keep our attention off of how they have ROYALLY FUCKED our economy.

Its like they got a pass on the "Fiscal Cliff" because of the Newtown Shooting. Now all anyone is talking about is gun control. They didnt take their month long beating on all the news shows disecting all the ins and outs of that pos bill because the sexy flashy news story is one where they can talk about AK47's.

Just got the same response from the Plaid One.  I didn't mind that it was canned, and liked that it was short and sweet, without waxing/waning like the current Congressional template responses.

Lamar is about as firm as wet TP.

He voted AGAINST the Nat. Park carry bill, in case y'all didn't know this. Corker voted FOR, FWIW.
