Hello Folks. I will be traveling to your state in the near future and have done some homework to know that Texas and Tennessee have CCW reciprocity. I have researched some of your CCW laws and it seems Texas is a bit more strict about CCW than Tennessee, but I have found that different sites show different things.
So I would like to ask you to explain to me where I can and can’t carry. Do you have signage I need to look out for (Like Texas has what is known as the 30.06 sign and anywhere that sign is posted, I cannot carry). Do I need to declare to the officer I have a ccw if stopped? Anything special I need to know about being in the Pigeon Forge area with a ccw? Lastly, do you have magazine restrictions? |

No magazine restrictions. As for signage. Just about anything works for restricting access now. Even a symbol of a gun with a slash though it. Otherwise, just about everywhere else is open to carry. |

Not "required" to tell an officer but its highly encouraged. A pro-gun officer is likely to cut you loose with a warning and start pointing out where the funshops and ranges are. One of the other kind may likely have you face down on the ground if it comes as a surprise that you are carrying. We can take custody of the weapon for the duration of the stop, it should be returned to you afterward if you have no other legal issues. Most officers will just tell you to slow down, use your blinker, etc. if you advise them up front and present your carry permit.
Where you headed? Might point out some stuff for you. |

Anything special I need to know about being in the Pigeon Forge area with a ccw? Lastly, do you have magazine restrictions? Well, I'd start by reading our FAQ, tacked here at the top of the forum. Any questions after that, we'll be glad to addess them! Welcome to Tennessee, Patron State of Shootin' Stuff! David TFA Online TFA Forum TFA on Facebook |

Google it, was named dirtiest hotel in America by Travel Channel Thanks. We do plan to go to the aquarium, the titanic (main reason we are going, since my middle son is really into the titanic and he found the museum online), the needle, someone said there was a gondola that takes people to the mtn top near gatlinsburg (sp?). We secured a cabin for a week. |

In my experience telling a LEO up front you are carrying is advised.
2 out of 4 times I've been let off with a warning, 1 out of 4 times speeding wasn't brought up as we talked about glock preferences, the last time i got a ticket (newbie officer as he had a "supervisor with him" so I was thinking he wanted to bust his pen out and write me a ticket). |

The wife wants to head over there on the way home (not that Nashville is in any way on my way back to Texas from Pigeon Forge).... The Parthenon is in Centennial Park, which is part of the Metro Nashville Parks Dept. All Metro Nashville parks prohibit carry (we're working on getting that changed, but Nashville has too many liberals for it to be an easy change). There's a small art museum in the basement of the parthenon, in addition to the main hall with the replica statue. Centennial Park also has an F-86D mounted on a pole, and a large steam locomotive on display. Up on the hill, in a section of the park that most people ignore, there's a few civil war mortars. If you're passing through Nashville, it might be worth your time. There's also a variety of restaurants in that general area, if you happen to be there around lunch. |

My other boy and my daughter will LOVE that.... Good to know about the park being non-ccw. Can I leave my gun in my car on park grounds? |

You can lock it in the car but I'd have some way to secure it from thieves. Depending on what part of Texas you are coming from Nashville may be on your way. Unfortunately, possession is banned in the parks, period...even locked in your vehicle. As noted, we're working on changing that...but it probably won't happen this legislative session. I would not stay in the park after dark, other than perhaps to drive through it to see the Parthenon lit up. The jet & locomotive are pretty cool, too, & the glider swings are of a neat design. The Parthenon is truly a sight to behold. It is the world's only full-scale replica of the classic Greek temple on the Acropolis. Alan LeQuire's statue of Athena Parthenos dominates the interior, much as the original is said to have done. There's not a straight line in the building, though it looks visually perfect. The bronze doors weigh approximately 7 tons each, but are so perfectly balance that a small child can easily move them. I'd recommend stopping if it's reasonably convenient to do so. My favorite BBQ joint is Hog Heaven, in the SW corner of the park, right behind the McDonalds. Their smoked pulled turkey is great, and their signature white sauce is my favorite sauce ever. have a safe trip. If there are other places you want to know about, just ask. David |
