Anyone here shoot the 458 Socom? If so do you have a favorite load? Just getting started with this round and as high as bullets are trying not to waste alot.
I am experimenting with h110 and RE7 and using barnes tsx 300 bullets and hornady 300 jhp. |

Yep, I have one of the developer of the rounds custom uppers(Marty Ter Weeme). Fantastic performance for a big bore on the AR platform. I bought my first 200 rounds of ammo from Corbon 2 years ago and they have Remington 300 grain JHPs.
I also use Hornady 300 grain JHPs bullets over 38 grains of H110. (warning, this is right on the edge of hot so don't start with my load info, work up because every chamber has its own quirks) I'm also now reloading some 450 grain Barnes solids we bought in a group buy on 458socomforums.com. My next experiment is to load some deep well 86 grain aluminum hollow points over some Lil Gun. Got these from Lehigh bullets. Very good company to deal with. Tom threw the aluminum bullets in for free when I bought some other bullets from him. These light things are supposed to approach 3000 fps but don't reach out very far. Its also supposed to make a spectacular fireball to wake up the range buddies on your left and right Your on the right track. Come visit us over on the forum for more info and you can ask questions from the guy that designed the round and licensed it to Rock River Arms. |
