Hey all,

My HCP expires in 10 weeks, so I went to tthe DOS to drop off the paperwork for renewal (too much info in 1 envelop to trust the USPS imho).

The gal starts keying info into the computer and then informs me that I have to prove my citizenship (I guess having my freakin SS# in the system doesn't cut it).  I had to run home and get my Birth Certificate and run it back over.

I was informed that the new law is that if you have never proven you're a citizen to the state that the next time you go to renew your DL or HCP you have to present proof you are a citizen.

Don't try to renew in the mail if you haven't proven citizenship and do not go to DOS without your Birth Certificate.

My renewal paperwork made no mention of this requirement and had I not gone in it may have taken too long to get it taken care of and my permit may have expired before getting the next one.

Question: can anyone who recently renewed their HCP tell me about how long it took?

i did mine a little while ago (july) through the DMV when i had my DL updated (moved), and i am pretty sure it took almost the full 90 days to get it back.
