So it looks like I will be in Nashville for the National DARE Conference in the middle of July of this year. Someone help me out...I need to know all things Nashville. What is the weather like, what to do or avoid, where to eat and do you guys do any shooting down there? Alaska is a far northern shout from Tennessee and this will be the big city for me. I will be staying at the Gaylord Opryland during the conference. what is there to do in the area? Is this a good place to stay? Please let me know if there are any gun shows that week or places to shoot or good gun shops. Thanks again. |

Articbear, First and foremost, it will be hot and humid, frequently we have afternoon thunderstorms when its that hot. Gunshops are in all directions, some high end, some mediocre. I would suggest trips north to Rivergate Gun and Knife (aka Uselton Arms), they sell good stuff and also do custom rifles and pistols www.useltonarmsinc.com/index.html You can run up from there to Guns and Leather in Greenbrier, gunsandleather.com/ but when you go, tell them to check their freaking email for requests (my only gripe with them). If you go south, Franklin Gun shop just off I-65 is a good one as well. There is a really nice one in Lavergne, southeast of Nashville and for the life of me the name escapes me, someone will add more and remind us of that shops name. A smaller one but good for "gabbing" is the Reloaders Bench just north of I-40 on Mt. Juliet Road in Mt. Juliet, look on the right just after going north over the interstate. For shooting, the closest is only open Fri/Sat/Sun afternoons, its a Tenn wildlife resources run range and you have to pay a small charge to shoot. Link to Stones River Range is www.state.tn.us/twra/stonesrv.html. There are probably some others and I'm sure someone will jump in. This can work as you'll want to go east on I-40 to Mt. Juliet Road again and go south about 8 miles to get there! You can hit the Reloaders Bench, go shoot, and on your way back hit the tourist trap restaurant of choice, Cracker Barrell...all in one trip! If your staying at Gaylord then you will be right next to Opry Mills mall with a nice Bass Pro shop, a theatre, restaurants. I'm to simple to look for the good stuff, I like Hooters when I go out and there is one in Rivergate if you go to Useltons. The good stuff is all down in Nashville. Hit 2nd Avenue and Westend. Got the good eating places like the Palm, Mortons, Ruths Chris, etc. Just depends on what you want to do. There is also good eats and drinks right there in the hotel. If they haven't changed, I stayed there once and made sure to get a room with a balcony over the arboretum, they have a jungle in the middle of the place and restaurants that overlook it! Its a great place to stay. You should take a riverboat tour on the General Jackson showboat. It makes a run to downtown Nashville on the Cumberland river and serves you a dinner. You'll see the city skyline from the river and Titans Stadium, LP Field or whatever they will be calling ith when you make it down. Don't know on the gun shows, they are usually at the Fairgrounds or down in Murfreesboro, about 40 minutes drive from where your going to be, some of the regulars here will post on that I'm sure. Avoid travel at rush hour just like in any major city. Do some searches and you can easily line up plenty to do. Write again a little closer and I'm certain everyone will be glad to help. One thing about Tennessee and its people, It ain't heaven, but you can see it from here! Welcome |

July in Nashville will be hot and humid. With an emphasis on HOT and on HUMID. If you step outside you will break out in a sweat. Cool stuff to do. Check out the Hermitage home of Andrew Jackson. Close to Gaylord. If you play golf SpringHouse is a good course close by. Several War of Northern Agression battlefields in the suburbs of Franklin & Murfeesboro. There's always the Opry right on the Gaylord property. Don't go over to the Opry Mills mall on Friday or Saturday night if you value your life. The other rule to remember for Nashville is OLD Hickory Boulevard (OHB) is a loop that circle Nashville. Pmc |
Actually, the shooting was inside the mall itself, not out in the parking lot it was reported................ |
