My daughter is moving to St George next month trying to find an apartment. 1 bedroom monthly rent is around $6-700 and she called couple apartments but  could not find 1 bed room apartment available now. Is the area really this expensive and hard to find apartments? Any "bad areas" to avoid?

I have 2 kids in St. George.
One was renting up until a month ago.
Renting a 2-3 bedroom apt. with a roomate seems to be the equitable solution.
Seems, 7-800 was the going rate for these.

I recently moved back up north after living down in St. George. I am still in school and got married while I was down there. You can find some pretty good priced apartments around the school. We were only paying $400 a month for the few months we were down there. Most of the area really is clean. I don't know of anywhere I would avoid, but I would recommend looking around the school for something priced a little better. I know there were some near the temple that were very reasonably priced, temple view or something like that they were named.

There really isn't a bad part of town.

A good indicator: the local newspaper made a huge deal (front page) about a gas station getting robbed.

I'd second the apartments around campus, a lot of them are all-inclusive.  There is a lot of shopping and restaurants close to the school as well.
If she has a car, that's fine... but she'll really only need a moped.

Additionally, campus police don't fuck around.

ETA: It's still summer, so an apartment might actually be available down here.  Come fall, the areas around campus fill up quickly.

No real bad areas, some are just older than others. Anything near the college will be in a more 'historic' part. Crime is almost non-existent around here.

Be careful about renting houses, as there is occasionally a scam with people posting houses/apts for rent and them not being the owners that was going on some time ago.

Real estate in general has gotten rampantly overpriced and I think the rentals in the area aren't growing with the increase in population so its not the easiest place to just find a place and go.
