I moved here from oregon and i know in oregon you can sell Handguns FTF and was just wondering what the laws are here in utah to sell a handgun if i need any special paperwork and if FTF is ok. Thanks for the help got a gun to sell! Bob |
I know in the state of Utah you only need to be 18 to purchase ANY firearm from a private party, check the state law and see what it says if you dont believe me. it is a good idea to write a bill of sell and atleast have them show you a valid Driver License to help discourage our outstanding people we call felons I always put I will do a background check Just my .02 |
Just 18 for private sale of a pistol. If it's from a FFL then the buyer must be 21. |
No, the buyer can be 18 for both handguns and long-arms IF THE SELLER IS NOT A FFL. 18 year old can buy NFA items from UNLICENSED sellers too. The 21 for handguns and 18 for long-arms law is a Federal law and applies only to those with a FFL. The state of Utah does not have any additional laws preventing the sale of handguns to individuals under the age of 21 in private sale. |
Yeah no shit!! The law has already CYA by making the age 18 for FTF, or private firearm sells between private individuals, there is no need to CYA and make it 21. There is no reason what so ever to CYA and make it 21 its a waste of time people!! |
+1. Why deprive an 18yro that knows the law something he's legally able to purchase? There are thousands of 18 year old men serving in the United States military that are given fully-automatic weapons and treat them with respect. If one of those war veterans came to you looking to buy a handgun would you really tell them "thanks for getting shot at and shit. I know it's legal for me to sell you this gun but I've got to CYA so . . . NO SALE FOR YOU!" Chances are if he's spent the time to investigate the law he's a law abiding citizen. Law breakers don't open up the state code to get a quick reference on what's legal and what's not. They do illegal shit and don't care. |
