We'll probably make our annual trip to see the lights next weekend.  Does Temple Square get lumped in with a "house of worship"?

I don't "think" so.  None of the buildings in there, except for the temple, and maybe the old tabernle would be off limits.  I will be going up this weekend, and will be carrying.  It'll be dark, I'll have tons of layers, and I've never been searched or seen anyone being searched in the 16 years I've been going up there.

Depends, according to my CCW class the LDS places of worship are off limits even without any postings.  Searches are rare but do happen (typically right before General Conference) and have happened throughout the year (typically in response to threats).  Even still the only thing they will probably do is deny you access (there are no laws therefore no legal actions).

The statute only outlaws firearms in a "house of worship."  Don't go in any buildings.

Violations are only an infraction anyway.

There it is, but from what I have been told all CCW classes are supposed to give the warning that LDS buildings are off limits so I would be careful.

The statute doesn't cover all LDS buildings, just "all houses of worship".  To me, that's actual church buildings that's primary function is to serve as a house of worship.  I carry at BYU, when I go to the distribution center, when I visited my wife at Beehive clothing (where they make the garments).  I'd stay out of any building just to be on the safe side, but as long as you aren't in any buildings, the most they can do is ask ya to leave.

You could always call them.  If you do, ask who we'd send a letter to asking them to not renew the carry restriction this year please?

I just took my Utah CCW class this week and they emphasized "inside" an LDS building.  I would think walking around the square looking at the lights is fine, its basically public property anyway.  "Out of sight, out of mind" ... keep it "concealed".
