I'm interesting in trying out 3 Gun and I see that there is a match on Sept. 15th.  Can someone that is an ARF.com member repost the info from that thread a few months ago about getting started in 3 gun?

Only problem is that my Saiga 12 Auto Shotgun puts me in the Open division, oh well, it will be more fun than using my Benelli Nova 28" barrel 12 gauge pump

Pistol: CZ SP-01, 19 round mags can be downloaded if I ever want to be in limited class with different rifle/shotgun
Rifle: Kreb's KTR-03S AK in 7.62x39 w/ aimpoint or DPMS AP4 .308 w/ EOTECH
Shotgun: converted Saiga 12 shottie with 10 round magazines

I've been told to just show up early for the new shooter orientation, bring chamber flags and be safe and have fun.  I've got mag carriers for my pistol mags but what do you people suggest for my Shotgun/rifle mags?  Also, do all long guns need to have slings or will they be picked up and put down on tables during the course of fire?

No need for slings and they sell chamber flags there for a few bucks, I'm still working on a mag carrier for my rifle, and these Click looked interesting to me.

It's a lot of fun.

Yes, please do show up early. Makes things run smoother.

Definitely no need for slings as you're not allowed to carry the gun slung during the course of fire. You just table it.

I also wouldn't worry too much about divisions as mainly all the UDPL matches are for fun.

I picked up one of the Blade-Tech mag carriers Gibbles mentioned. Haven't tried it in a match yet, but it seems to work well when I've played around with it with a Pmag. I know a few guys run them.

If you have any specific questions, ask. Some of the Utah 3-gun guys post, including the 3-gun match director, so there should be plenty of people to answer questions.

ETA: Make sure you take more ammo than what is listed, as the listed figure is usually a MINIMUM round count. I usually take double so I have enough for extra shots/reshoots/fun/etc.

What is a typical round count for a rifle stage?  I don't need a way to carry mags if i just use a 75 round drum in my AK, or do some stages have mandatory reloads?

Also, how do you carry all of your long guns, pistol, ammo and other paraphernalia to the stage from the parking lot?  In the cases or do you make a few trips?

Do they allow any NFA weapons like SBR's for fun?  I read the rulebook and it never mentioned NFA weapons except that shotguns had to have a minimum 18" barrell

Not sure the rules on SBRs, You'd have to ask the match director for clarification there.

Typical round count varies, but usually 20-30 range. And there sometimes is a mandatory reload. Some guys will just throw a mag in the pocket.

Pistol is holstered on the belt. Shotgun and rifle usually stay in the case until you need them. Most people just drive from stage to stage. Park right there and get whatever you need out of the vehicle.

SBR's are fine.

If you run a suppressor you need to make sure the Squad Leader is close by and is able to pick up your shots.  Atomicferret likes to run his Tac-16 but has had to re-shoot a couple stages because he wasn't timed.

The pistol is carried on person with the mag out and chamber empty.  Rifles and shotguns are left in their case with a chamber flag until they are needed.

Most rifle stages are around 30 shots max.  If you require extra shots then you'll need an extra mag.  In my experience it's rare to have a rifle stage designed requiring a reload.  The rifle stages mess with you more in the distance game.  You'll have really close target where only head shots count then you'll have the farthest shot being on a 300 yd steel plates, typically hit twice, on another course.

Bring water, lunch, snacks, a camera, and sunscreen.
