I spoke with the owner of Get Some (Stuart) today. Although there has been some permit problems he has finally got the the go ahead and the range is finally officially under construction. (Well the range in built it just needs to be installed.) He will be up and running very soon, with the first fun AR shoot to be soon after. I just though I would give you a heads up.

I think being farm raised has messed up my head; I hate indoor shooting ranges.

I think your right there is nothing like shooting in the great outdoors. But the ranges in the valley suck for semi automatic shooting. Nothing will ever replace shooting in the desert, but i don't always have time for the hour drive. This will be a close alternative for those times I want to shoot on a day I am strapped for time, because I am not stuck just shooting a handgun, I could bring my AR, or bolt action or .50BMG (if I had one.)

How long are the lanes?

They will have 14 lanes 25 yards long. I know its not ideal for rifle shooting, but you can still have some fun. He is allready talking about and looking for a building that will go out to 100 yds, and a shoot house. Who knows though, that would be down the road.

At the Gun Show Get Some was passing out fliers for their new location. It looks like they will be open by July 1st. And it looks like memberships will be as low as Edit:  Please contact M21 through E-mail or IM for membership pricing.  medicmandan, I think the membership will allow you to shoot during normal business hours(Stu said they would be open 7 days a week). And I guess there will be a few other memberships to choose from. So that seems to be reasonablly priced, but no word on how much a day pass will cost yet.

I didn't renew my Holladay Gun Club membership because they tripled their membership fee from $50 to $150 / year.  I am sure as hell not going to pay $250 for a membership, especially if I can't sight a rifle in at 100 yards there.

Maybe it's just me, but the membership fee seems to be too steep.  I could go to the Police Training Range 50 times for that much money.

No i don't think it is out of line. I have heard of indoor ranges charging up to $15 an hour.

No advertising please.  The notice of the new range, location and hours is acceptable.  If you have questions regarding membership pricing please contact M21 by IM or E-mail.

Sorry, medicmandan, I was just relaying info I found. If there are questions I would call the store, I only know a little bit.

Running a quality indoor operation takes money. Those prices are below other indoor range memberships around the country. It is just that Utahn's are too damned cheap to realize the additional costs involved in a facility like this.

When you have free ranges you end up with places like Dougs. FBMG and GS are trying to raise the bar in Utah as far as quality and features go. There will always be some who just wont pay for quality. Thats why Walmart is so popular here. But the decerning customer that appreciates a quality, clean and safe range is the target auqiance we are after. No offense, but thats the way the market is here. The other ranges in town can step up their game (and their rates to pay for it) or they can cater to those who don't mind a little lead contamination.

I will be honest, Impact Guns is pretty close to me, the range fees there are comparable to what GS and FBMG have talked about charging. I shoot there on occasion. My big issues with Impacts range here in Ogden are lack of distance for rifle/carbine work and the "no shooting from a holster" rule Impact had in place. I wont talk about my other experinces there.

I generally shoot at a couple of outdoor ranges. Fewer people most of the time, less exposure to lead, longer distances and no silly holster rule. Yes its hot in the summer, wet when it rains and snows, cold in the winter, and not always open, but I feel I get more out of my practice time, and I know what I can do in all sorts of weather.

But PvtPyle is right, running a good indoor range costs a lot of money in lighting, airhandling, bullet catchers and recycling, target trolly systems, insurance, etc etc etc... A well lit range with decent target systems and clean air would get my business over a place like Dougs any day of the week.

One box of Wolf 9mm at Dougs will take 5 years off your life.
