So I'm new here in Utah...and have only been to Impact Guns in Ogden and to Doug's Shooting Sports in Taylorsville. Are there any other gun stores worth checking out? What about pistol/rifle ranges? Is there any sort of property we can go out and shoot on? Any NFA ranges!? Sorry for the many questions. |

In the SL Valley: Sportsman's Warehouse on 7200 S and about 200 West. FBMG on 12600 S and Guardsman Way Get Some Guns on 7280 S and 700 W Cabelas in Lehi Vector in North Salt Lake As for ranges: Lee Kay on 5600 W and HWY 201 (no full auto) Holladay Gun Club up Parley's Canyon by the golf course There is talk that two indoor ranges are opening in the valley this year. I don't know if actually dates are available. |
I drove past it the other day when I was in SLC just to verify the location. It's on the east side of the road, a long, thin building going away from the State Street that used to be a TV shop of some sort. As far as shops in the SLC area, don't forget Gallenson's located right downtown. Their hours are a little short, but they are worth dropping by at least once. Down here in Utah county, you have Cabela's* (Lehi), Gunnies* (Orem), Van Wagenen's (Orem), another Sportsman's Warehouse (Provo), Rangemasters (Springville), and Payson Sport and Trophy* (Payson). Those marked with an * sell real black powder, if that is the sort of thing that tickles your fancy. Cabela's is definately worth stopping by, if only to see the spectacle and their gun library. Gunnies has a decect selection, but well, let's just say they've done the part to make it as difficult as possible for me to give them money in exchange for goods or services. Half the store is gun stuff and the other half is western wear. Van Wagenen's is more or less a pawn shop type operation. They have a good selection of certain lines and seem to be more than fair when trading, especially compared to many gun show dealers. They used to have amazing ammo prices, but those days are gone. A bit better than half the shop is guns and the remainder is music/PA gear. Not much in the way of accessories and holsters and such. Sportsmans Warehouse in Provo is just about the same as the one on 7200. Rangemasters has a range and some interesting things, but their location and increased range fees ($12-15/person/hour) have kept me from going in more often. Payson Sport and Trophy is another smaller shop, but Payson is a pretty long drive from SLC. |

Sorry dude, having seen Afghans try that I am always a little anxious when someone does it for the first time. But you did great and I would trust you to run the gun on your own now. Speaking of which, we are going to be doing training on all the weapon systems for range officers that want to help out for the April shoot. You interested? On indoor ranges, we are finallizing the lease on our new range building and going thru the motions with the city next week. 20 of the lanes are already built and ready to install. Once we get the agreement finalized we can be up and running in about 60 days. And parking will not be a problem, there are about 120 parking stalls in the lot. |

We found a building, and a land lord that saw the vision. Combine that with some agency contracts and a private contracting company that wants to use the facility for training their guy and it could not wait for a building to be built. So we had to pass on the 100m indoor this time. But if the next year goes as well as forcasted, there will be another location with the 100m and the live fire indoor shoothouse in the lower half of the valley to follow. Soon. We have started bringing on new employees and the training cadre has grown rather significantly (It is nice having real guys who have killed people in combat WANT to teach for you) and we will offer a full line of classes at the new location. With all of these developements it just could not wait. Hopefully there will be no major snags with the lease. |

In the south half of the valley, but very accessable and easy to get to. It will be hard to hide a 36,000 sqft building and a big sign. But everyone that is not on the inside will have to wait for the massive radio and print ad campaign. |
Well hurry up! I need somewhere to go shoot. |
When all these things come together Salt Lake City is going to be the new Shooting capital of the West. |

PvtPyle I know what you mean I went through US Army's foriegn Weapon Instructor course (as a marine) years ago and then during the first Gulf war we did a lot of fam firing with the Arab forces up by Manyyifa Bay (sp?) and those guys are sooo scary with full auto weapons. They act like it is always a big game to them. |

What is this about an April shoot? Any more info? I'm game. You guys forgot about 2 great outdoor ranges here in Utah county: Provo Gun Range - next to the trap and skeet ranges of the Provo Gun Club up Squaw Peak Rd. in Provo Canyon. Open most Wednesdays and Saturdays and only costs $2 per use. Can shoot NFA and they allow both steel targets any relatively safe "junk" targets that you want to bring. Just pick up after yourself. This last year Provo City spent a ton of money revamping the range with new berms, expanding the old 4 lane 85 yard range into s multi lane ~100 yard range with nice benches, a 50 yard pistol range with concrete walkways and a 2 lane tactical pistol bay. All very nice. Hobble Creek range is at the mouth of Hobble Creek Canyon in Springville. Tactical and cowboy action pistol bays, a 50 yard pistol range and a 50-200 yard rifle range. All have nice covered awnings and benches. Best part is that a membership only costs either $5 or $10 a year (can't remember what I last paid). More of a benchrester crowd but they allow most everything as long as you are safe. They are open April-November, trading off between Saturdays and Thursday nights |
I have had the same experience there too. It will only get better too with the range and all the NFA stuff coming in. I was in there on Tuesday when Mike was placing orders for suppresors and I think he ordered 30 or so, at this rate I will never have any money, but anything I can do to help fund the ATF is ok |

Is this them: www.getsomegunsandammo.com/ ? I'll have to go down there. |
Yep. Just down the road from Sportsmans Warehouse too. |
I can't wait to go back. They had a Winchester-made Garand Tanker there the other day. Don't see tons of those. |
