There are no public and or private ranges that allow FA in the metro area, The only range that does is almost a 2 hour drive from Hillsboro. Your best bet is finding a nice pit out in the woods.

Hillsboro is a largely hispanic community.  Although there are some high tech employers in the area, the large hispanic population of Hillsboro has pretty much taken over the local "flavor".

21 % Hispanic (22%), meh. Coming from AZ that really doesnt sound that bad lol. This is the general area I will be in. Good, bad? I have never actually been to OR yet so hopefully the area is not too bad....

Also be prepared to be disappointed in local gun shops and especially gun shows compared to what you have available in the Phoenix area.   Hell, even I head down to Phoenix once a year for the SAR show.

+1 on that. There are a few gems here and there for shops. But i have done most of my shopping/special orders online because of the lack of decent shops.

On the range note. Tri-county is a good spot for all around shooting, but i still go to pits in the woods more often than not. Its just more fun for me.

Tornado technologies in hillsboro does NFA/class 3 work and transfers and are super awesome. Willamette Valley Arms, also in hillsboro, I believe are a class 3 dealer. Those are the two local ones to you that I am aware of.

Ok some oregon survuval tips.
It does not rain, it fucking spits... and stays gray, get a few full spectrum bulbs it will help.
Fog, if you are not used to it in the westside get some polarized glasses,  drive a bit slower.
Freezing fog this shit is no joke, slow down ice+hills equals LULZ! Slow slow an slow.
Ice ad snow on the west hills = LULZ.

You can say that again. He'll be cursing the rain and clouds within a year. Almost a guarantee.

Oh yeah...and with a dusting of snow the whole metro area shuts down. No joke. . . a dusting. It usually happens every other year.

Salt and deicet is not used due to ground water pollution.
Hills plus window lickers in the snow with 4x4 = omg laughs. Esp ice. Sub hills for over passes for more lol.

Douche bags in bag weather not paying attention, tires not for snow and going to fast are to blame.

+1 to this,

It's pretty bad when it dusts the ground in snow, It's best just to stay home if you can get away with it.   There are way to many that can't drive in the rain/snow around here and cause massive wrecks.

That is the one thing I continually fail to understand about Oregonians.  It snows a reasonable amount every few years and a dusting every other with a day or two of freezing every year.  I have lived here all my life, save for four years when I was stationed in North Carolina, and when it snowed there I was the only one who was capable of driving in it.  I used to drive a Bronco so it was rarely an issue, but now I drive an Accord and I still get around town just fine in inclement weather.  For the amount that Oregonians claim to be used to bad weather, no one can drive in it!!!  This past winter I was on my way to work and saw a sweet 4runner in the ditch with the owner out of it scratching his head as I just zipped past.  And I don't even use snow tires, and I only use chains when I get to Timberline road on the mountain.  It's the embarrassing point when I talk to family from Minnesota or Colorado where they get a shadload of snow and it doesn't even register for them.  I have to wear the yoke of shame for the shitty drivers in this state.

ETA: The shitty driving does lead to massive lulz every year when I get to watch stupid people drive off the road and get stuck.  It makes me want to get another truck so I can go back to laughing at them for buying a Porsche Cayenne and thinking they can handle snow on awd alone, and not a reasonable sense of physics and how a car performs.

That is not true. Oregonians still amaze me with their lack of skills, you take a country bumpkin and put him in roads like portland and you get a world of fun.

pretty strange to me that EVERY PERSON I KNOW that came from a WARM tropical or hot desert place loves the rain here in Oregon.

Then again I kinda just like things when it has a season.....

Oregon would be better if spring and summer were really what it is.

Spent ten years in Arizona (Tempe) and getting out into the desert to shoot is not like getting up into the woods here to shoot. Seemed like Law Enforcement down there had a clue, knew machine guns were legal, would ask if they're registered to you and to see the forms, and then maybe even ask to shoot them. Many Law Enforcement Officers here in Oregon are ignorant of firearms laws and see fit to hassle folks. Had the above happen in Arizona a couple times where the Police wind up shooting and talking for a while before they leave and also a couple "run-ins" with Oregon LEOs where I felt fortunate to just be leaving with all my gear and not being hauled off to jail and having it all confiscated.

At any rate, the Albany Rifle and Pistol Club does allow full-auto, but as kapnkrunch said, it's probably a two-hour drive from Hillsboro.

Go Devils!

Since I don't know your financial situation, my apologies if I'm speaking out of school.

But you may want to start your job search post haste when you arrive.  Aside from the fact that the unemployment rate here is higher than average, for every month that you are not working, your chances of finding another job decrease 2.5%.  (I read this from a study posted on businessinsider.com several weeks ago).  So, if you wait 4 months to start looking, then statistically at least you've just decreased your odds of finding a job by 10%.

After 12 months of being out of work, that monthly percentage increases to 4%.  So, after 18 months for example, your chances of finding work decrease by 54% vs. someone who has the exact same skill set but just left their job yesterday.

This is mostly due to the fact that, for some reason, being long-term unemployed is itself a stigma.  Probably has something to do with the notion (true or false as it may be) that "if you were a good worker, someone would have hired you by now."

But like I said, I don't know your personal financial situation, so I'm throwing this out there more as a general thought...not just for you, but anyone who's thinking of taking some extended time off between jobs.

Im ok financially, thanks for asking and thank you for the advice. Just want to take a little extended vacation :) I will probably get bored quickly and end up sending out resumes anyways :) I have a few friends in the same job field up there so I'm sure I wont have a problem, but you never know...

The only FA range I know of is the Albany Rifle and Pistol Club. I live about 30min from Hillsboro. ARPC range is about an hour and 15min from my home. I used to shoot out in the woods but it was a good 45min drive to get out far enough away from the houses.

ARPC has a monthly FA subgun match that is worth the drive. It last a couple hours in the morning. I bring a few other guns and just make a day of it.

Welcome to Oregon.

No i wasnt saying that sorry.  Im not sure what the exact law is, but Im pretty sure you can do whatever you want on your own land as long as its not endangering others.  If you legally own a FA gun/rifle and have enough land that you can fire it without it alerting someone, then you should be just fine.

Well shooting within city limits anywhere is illegal.  If youre rural though its shouldnt be an issue.
