Anyone have a hookup for RN job? My wife is a new grad RN and she cannot find a job anywhere....  I have future plans of more school so we are hoping that I will not have to work full time...

Nice shiny DPMS AR15 for a New RN Grad job....

I can tell you in the southern part of the state there doesnt seem to be much new grad hiring. My wife is a RN and they have been on a hiring freeze in pretty much all depts for quite a long time now.
There is a Nursing school ( OHSU ) and a Coomunity college that both have RN programs and very few new grads have prospects in this area.

Wow I thought RN was the one job that was always in demand.  Up in Salem and further north they seem to be hiring pretty well...

Corvallis, Albany, Lebanon, Lincoln City, and Newport, Oregon.

Good luck.

major hiring freezes at all the hospitals in portland.  If you are looking for work, I have heard that you would have no problem getting an RN job up in AK, but then you have snow and bears to deal with.  But its a very 2A friendly state so it aint all bad.  Have you tried in the seattle area?  Not sure whats going on up there with the hospitals, but it might be worth a shot.  I can ask my wife if/when they are hiring again, but in her dept its kinda hit and miss as far as staffing goes (feast or famine and the summer time is usually pretty dead in there).  But I would think some of the more out of the way rural hospitals would be a good place to look.  I know the just put in a new hospital out in Baker City not that long ago so you might check there, but dunno if they have a freeze on as well.   Might also try Spokane WA, Lewiston/Moscow ID, Boise ID, Coure d'Alene ID if you are looking in the NW.

Regardless, it really sucks.  The hospitals need nurses, but they aren't hiring more.  But less people are getting routine things done as they are afraid of the bill so they hold off.  My boss' wife works in a unit a bigger hospital doing chemo, and she routinely goes home 1-2days a week because its slow.  About the only place that could be a good sector to at least get a paycheck is at nursing homes and care facilities.  Work isn't that great typically, and neither is the pay, but at least its a job.  Get some experience then move on.

The hospitals are hurting right now because many lack insurance and aren't paying for their medical procedures.... also, SO many illegals are using the ER as a general care facility and not paying up. A friend of mine is an RN at St. Vincent and they have been on a hiring freeze for quite some time now because they are tapped... OT isn't even authorized anymore.

Here is a story to put it into perspective..... it's story from Texas, but it's an example of what is happening across the country

Washington is pretty locked down too right now... Alaska would be AWESOME but they seem to only want travel nurses...

Thank you everyone.

I was under the apparently mistaken assumption that nurses were in very high demand.  I just assumed this meant that there were probably several job offers awaiting each new grad.

Interesting to hear this is not the case.

Many jobs are being taken by CNA's because they are cheaper to train and employ, also not many nursing schools in the Northwest so many hospital systems are using foreign grads.
Checkout Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver. There are nursing preceptorships and internships available as well as clinical employment. Speaking from personal experience it is a great place to work, the nurses are very happy.

My wife is an RN at Providence and  I have friends at some of the hospitals around the PDX area, including clinics.  I'll see what I can do.

jobs are tight only because the recession is hitting everyone, they will loosen up as time goes on and everyone gets sick from working all the OT. I would  try Kaiser or providence systems as they are always hiring somewhere. just get a foot in the door and then lateral. expect night shift med-surg or something akin to that. Good Luck. also try the smaller hospitals like silverton, willamette falls, etc.

Finding a nursing job right now isnt the easiest I know that Good Sam in the valley and out to the coast is in a hiring freeze. The issue is too many people have outstanding bills that they arent paying so the hospitals dont have an income of money and in order for it to turn around it falls back on those who have outstanding bills. I know this only cause my wife works in the insurance and billing part of Good Sam and no one is paying their bills.

I know this is a bit of a repeat, but its tough right now. Good luck to both of you.

My friend who is a nurse works in Salem at the hospital (name?). She said that the hospital is finishing up a new "tower" which is going to need plenty of people to staff it.

Also, the Non-profit organization that I work for is usually hiring nurses. If you want the name, im me and I'll send you the HR information.

Absolutely not correct.
My wife works in HR and there is no hiring freeze.

Best of luck to you and your wife.

There's room in Oregon for another AR owner, and room in my safe for your AR as well
