These guys are offering classes at the BIG three day portland gun show.

Yes I am affiliated with them but I don't teach the class.

The next big show is next week and they still have openings but its filling rather fast. I know that the Sunday one is filled if I am not mistaken.

The requirements for the CHL Instructor is NRA firearms insturctor certification, I believe.  Oregon State requirements speciify the NRA basic firearms course.  This is either a 6 or 8 hour classroom course.  Any gun shop/store/sheriff office can refer you or you can pull up the NRA website and get a referral.  Local resources vary from pretty good to horrible.

Not completely correct.  It requires a firearms course where safety was a portion of the course.  Lots of classes out there you can take in 3-4 hrs to satisfy that requirement.  But will they leave you with more questions than answers?

another vote for OFA, I'm glad I started training there.

I think the Fishermans in Oregon City off of McLaughlin puts on the class.  Not the best CC class but it will satisfy the requirements to get your paperwork started.

Bottom line: most any gun store offers the class, give a few a call to ask when their next one is. After that it is up to you to mentally prep and practice with your weapon of choice.

Multnomah County Sheriff's Department offers one. That's where I took it. Only taken one but it seemed to work...

Took mine with Portland Firearms Training Team (www.pdxftt.org). It's hosted at Johnson Creek Gun Club. NRA certified. Good people.
