Need a recommendation for a gunsmith or 'smiths to do these two projects. GunCrafters in Salem is out for reason's I don't care to elaborate on. I'm in Salem Project #1 Rebarrel my Howaby Vanguard 300 Weatherby to 375 Weatherby Magnumb. Would like a 26" SS barrel with the famous Weatherby freebore in. I've decided that there is not enough recoil in my world. Project #2 is a little less ambitious. Sporterize a 24/47 Mauser. Recrown barrel Mill off charger bridge. Bend and/or replace bolt D&T for Weaver bases, Swap out safety for a unit that clears the scope. Gun is staying in 8MM Mauser for now. If it shoots good after the conversion, I'll leave the barrel and chambering as is. Thanks ZM |

You could see if Mike at Tornado Technologies can do those two things. www.tornado-technologies.com/contactus.html |

That Howa may be a tuffy. I've talked to a few gunsmiths about doing the same sort of thing and they have told me those barrels are mated to the actions when they are really hot and it's hard to seperate them without breaking something... If it can be done though, let me know! |
Howa/Vanguards have a different type of thread. Metric? I think? Awhile back I asked on Saeeds site if this was a doable project. After getting some abuse from the CRF guys, I got a resounding yes. A couple guys had already converted from 300 WBY to 340 and 375 Weatherby. It's a straight barrel swap with no other mods needed. |
