I just signed up for the 2008 Novice School organized by the Oregon Region SCCA Solo program.  I'm pretty excited about this, it was one of the reasons I picked the car I got.

My car isn't good for hauling guns and gear to Browns or Memaloose, but it should be good for this.

Anyone here active in SCCA, autocross, or other racing events?

Oregon Region SCCA is a good group of people on all sides. I spent several years living at the tracks around the NW turning wrenches on road race cars. The Cone Killing was a blast when I gave it a try on all club days. Some of those guys are amazing at what they can do on the courses they set up. IMHO its probably one of the biggest bangs for the buck in organized racing that you can get especially if your running a showroom stock or barely modded type of class. There are also schools for road racing, much the same as your taking for autocross, if you decide you want seat time on the actual track at PIR. I know Team Continental and SCCA both have schools for sure here...

There is much fun to be had...Keep it shiney side up...

I'd love to get involved, I hear autocross is an excellent low cost way of learning pro driving techniques.

There's the April Novice School that I'm attending, and another one later this summer.  Even without the school, I think you can show up at a regular race and someone will help you through it.

As long as your car is safe, you should be good to go.

I'm looking forward to it!

Never raced them, but they are a hoot to watch on a Sunday afternoon.

Get another set of tires.  I've kept an extra set of 18's just in case I ever decided to beat up my car and do this kinda stuff.

I used to do OR Region EESCC events a LOT a few years back.  Lots of excietment and it's great way to learn your cars capabilities.

About all I do anymore is Larison Rock Hillclimb in July.

she still makes 60psi with 280k on the clock 83gsl with a 12a. i wont be autocrossing it though i cant fit in it with a helmet on as i found out today 6'3'' in a first gen is a tight fit

Congrats! Just don't be upset when she lets go. Brag! 60psi per face is getting down there but that 12A has had an excellent long life.
