I heard this talked about on 105.1 the buzz, has me thinking about a GPS myself.

I signed up a few days ago - great interface with the Garmins.
Just click "load to GPS" and off you go!

I need to find out if I can just use my buddy's MapSource CD or if I need my own.

You will definitely need your own Mapsource Software.  It registers to your unit.  You can't load it to any other units.

Have you tried -
Free topo's of Astoria, Cannon Beach and PDX - appears pretty accurate
www.aracnet.com/~seagull/ORTopo/
or
Free user submitted maps -
mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/catalogue.php

I don't know much about these but they appear interesting
OpenStreetMap
garminmapsearch.com/
rwsmaps.griffel.se/

Of course, free maps may or may not be accurate.

I used img2gps to get maps to my sad little Etrex Vista. I think the transfer method for C60x is easier. Good luck
