I had posted this elsewhere in the net awhile back, but thought I'd throw it out here since everyone seems to be on a music kick again My top 5 musicians Bass Players(we'll start here, since I play bass a little) 1. David Wm. Sims (Scratch Acid, Rapeman, Jesus Lizard) The inspiration for me to pick up bass. The man has the heaviest bottom end I've ever heard in my life. 2. Paul Barker (The Blackouts, Ministry) Unique tunings and araingments, an all around talented composer. 3. Jerry Only (The Misfits) Dark, evil, crunchy...the man even had his own bass strings developed to fit his style. 4. Daniel House (Skin Yard) Probably the most underated band from the Seattle scene of the 80's-90's. He also ran C/Z records, which released many of the more prominent bands of the era. 5. Darryl Jenifer (Bad Brains) The man could go from punk to reggae and back several times in one set. Influnced many other punkers to pick up bass and start a band. The Guitarists 1. Tommy Victor (Prong, Ministry) A brutal attack, very unstandard chords, but melodic at the same time. His solo's aren't a "Hey, this is how good I am", more of this is how I feel. 2. Jack Endino (Skin Yard, Endino's Earthworm) He ran Reciprocal Recordings and produced a majority of the popular bands and albums from the 80's-90's in Seattle. Very acid rock, melodic and just flat out technical....precise. 3. Brett Bradford (Scratch Acid) Mix stoner rock, punk, and rockabilly with a dash of Texas hot sauce. Must listens are "Mary Had A Little Drug Problem" and Lay Screaming. 4. Pig Champion-RIP (Poison Idea) Pig may have played ferocious punk for Portlands premier punk band of the 80's-90's, but the man had talent. Listen to the solo of "Taken By Suprise".....it plays like the classic structure of dramatic literature. 5. Frank Zappa - The man wasn't just a guitar player.....he was a god of structure and maybe the best composer, in the classical sense, since Mozart. The Drummers 1. Rey Washam (Scratch Acid, Big Boys, Rapeman, Ministry...too many others) A talented drummer who can play just about any style, from punk to funk to jazz. A bit of a basher playing the harder stuff, mostly on the top. 2. Bill Rieflin (The Blackouts, Ministry...many others) Like Rey, the man can play anything....he was even the touring drummer for Jewel once. Heavier on the bottom end. 3. Eddy Garcia (Pissing Razors) Eddy also toured once with Ministry on bass, but drums are his forte. One of the tightest double kicks I've heard. 4. Jeff Ward - RIP (Lard, Revolting Cocks) Jeff died before I think he had a chance to really gain a reputation. Lards "Sylvetre Matuschka" is an amazing example of speed and precision. 5. Mark Baker (SpeedDealer, Fear, Ministry) Toured and studio drummed with Ministry for a few years. Fast....Loud.....tight.....double kick from hell! |
I've always tended to listen to less mainstream music.......and I woke up too early this morning, and no way in hell I was going in to the store early. They already called me at 7:00 to see if I knew where the spare key was for the delivery car.......my driver went to warm it up, and locked the keys in it!!!!! It's gonna be one of those days, I can feel it
|
Nah, it wont. Your driver is a dumbass but that just means you can laugh at him when you do go in. Then your day starts off with some comic relief.

I can probably dig up some live Scratch Acid that my brother taped......you two are peas in a pod when it comes to taste in music. He's been recording shows for ever it seems....all I hear from him is " Dude, you wanna go see the Melvins, I'm on the guest list again..." |
Laughing at HER isn't good, she does a good job, but doesn't take ridicule or criticism well. Then she gets flustered and screws the whole day up. |
Thats how my bro-in-law is. He's been in the Seattle music scene since the mid 80's. Half the time we go to a club show, I don't have to pay, cause he knows the club owners. For awhile, he published a music zine on his own, then with a group of musicians, artists, and club owners published a bi-weekly paper that evovled into a zine that for a few years was the biggest indie published mag in the Seattle area. |
Send her packing! Replace with hungry out of work Arfcommer. Problem solved. |

I think for my top 5 bassists I would have to list the following, probably more because of the use of their strong bass lines in certain songs than their actual musical talent (which I do believe they do have much of): Andy Fraser John Entwistle Flea Geddy Lee William Collins (Bootzilla Baby!) |
Just kidding man.
