I have sold many o gun over the past ten years. Most thru the shop and few here and there. But one question has always skirted getting a straight answer. Can an Oregon resident sell a gun to a WA resident if the WA resident comes to Oregon to buy it? What say the law on this? |

Federally yes.. When I was deployed for Missi and New Orleans...I bought some stuff there on my return flight...in gulf port... Guys said that rifles are okay...but no pistols under federal law... but then again...if there is more than meets the eye for Oregon....I don't know... |
No choppers here however offers of ftf for a handgun from a noname member from out of states makes me wonder. Especially when mention of using a dealer got me no reply. |
Just get a copy of his drivers license. Whatever you do, make sure he doesn't BLACKOUT any of the numbers! ![]() ![]() ![]()

NO, IT'S NOT LEGAL...ANY ACROSS BORDER TRANSFERS MUST BE DONE THROUGH AN O1(OR O2) FFL...... I, AS A WASHINGTONIAN, CAN GO INTO ORYGUN AND BUY A LONG GUN FROM A DEALER, COMPLETE A 4473 AND GO THROUGH THE ORYGUN NIX LEGALY, AND VICE VERSA FOR YOU FROM ORYGUN. FOR HANDGUNS, I CAN GO INTO ORYGUN, PURCHASE A HANDGUN FROM A DEALER, THAT DEALER MUST THEN TRANSFER TO AN O1(OR O2) IN WASHINGTON, WHERE I COMPLETE A 4473, AND THE NIX IS CALLED IN ON ME UP HERE. I CAN, AS AN O3, GO INTO ORYGUN AND MAKE A PURCHASE DIRECTLY FROM AN INDIVIDUAL, AS LONG AS THE FIREARM IS A VERIFYABLE CURIO & RELIC. EITHER INDIVIDUAL FROM EITHER STATE CAN PURCHASE AN ANTIQUE ACROSS THE BORDER, SUCH AS WHAT I DID WHEN I BOUGHT A NICE 1873 TRAP DOOR SPRINGFIELD FROM UNCLE BOO. LOTS OF GUNS CHANGE HANDS ACROSS BORDERS, LOTS OF PEOPLE DRIVE 70 MPH IN A 55MPH ZONE........WATCH FOR SPEED TRAPS. --CARLOS |
This is my understanding also. A while ago I was interested in purchasing a gun in WA when visiting relatives for thanksgiving. I wasnt sure how it was to be done so I had to pull out my State Laws and Published Ords. ATF publication. What I remember was that I had to go through a dealer in the state I was purchasing in. It also needed to be legal in the state I reside in. I was interested in a rifle so I dont recall much about handguns. I dont remember that page or section, maybe Ill look tomorrow If work is slow. I keep a copys of the pubs there to read when the work-safe gun forums get slow ![]() Sure you can go the "do as you want", "act like you didnt know", "not my biz", way. But youre talking about the government, and the ATF's Interpretation and courts Implementation. I have a feeling they wont see it like that. You will have a fun time proving you swore on your freedom they were from oregon or whatever. I think you should just check the Publication mentioned above for the real answer. I will try to find actual reference for you. |
